Glossy Box September 2017 Review

Its officially September and officially starting to feel like summer is well and truly over! Today I headed into Manchester to visit my modelling agency and have a casting and upon walking back to my car (thankfully not before!) I was literally DRENCHED in rain. So bad that I sent my boyfriend a picture and he literally asked if someone had thrown a bucket of water over me. (He’s getting some better weather in Austria whilst he’s  working there for the day so wasn’t aware quite how bad the rain was!)

So after that experience I was so glad to come home and get into a snuggly jumper and open up my Glossy Box that I get so excited for each month. This is my 4th box now and I’ve never been disappointed! I’ve never posted a blog post on what’s been inside but this time I thought I’d share with everyone. I’ve had some bits that I literally use all of the time which brings me back to today’s rain – last month I got a SportFX setting spray which I used this morning and even through the rain my makeup stayed nice? Miracle. My other fav product so far is the Model.Co contour stick which has become a staple in my makeup bag and my professional makeup kit that I use on clients.

So, onto this months box:

Taylor’s 32 Natural Whitening Toothpaste

Of course I’m going from first impressions here as my Box only arrived today – but I’m liking the idea of this product! It’s a really big box which is always good, instead of a tiny little sample you can only use once or twice. This is full size! The only downside is that it’s Grapefruit and Mint flavour – I’m not sure how I feel about this? I’ve seen some people have just mint which I’m a little jealous of, but I’ve seen some have fennel and mint so I’m just glad I didn’t get that!

PIXI by Petra Brow Tamer

When I opened this up I said ‘mum let me try this on you’ as she had bare eyebrows and honestly it didn’t really do a lot. I think this will be good for top ups during the day and maybe when I’m styling a shoot and want a good bushy Brow but I personally prefer tinted Brow mascaras that leave a coating around the hairs making them appear thicker. I think another issue (well it would annoy me but maybe not others) is that this will be applied over the usual Brow pencil/gel/shadow which means if you dip back in, the gels going to get murky eventually. Maybe that’s just my own little dislike!

MONU SKIN Firming Fiji Facial Oil

For me, this sounds amazing! I love facial oils, espescially as the bad weather is approaching. A lot of girls will be afraid to try oils on their face through fear of getting spots but if you clean your face well and are selective with what oils you put on your face, you might find that your skin is really helped! Essential oils like Rosehip, and the two found in this product – Bois De Rose and Patchouli can work wonders on the skin! This smells beautiful and I can’t wait to try it.

Cetaphil Cleanser, Face and Body Moisturising Cream and Moisturising Lotion.

I love this cute little trio of Cetaphil products. Great for sensitive skin and the mini bottles mean I can pop them in my handbag to use on the go! I’ve never used Cetaphil products myself but I have heard of them and know people that swear by them for their sensitive skin.

STYLONDON Siligel Blender

This is the ‘Star’ product in this month’s box, but truthfully it’s probably my worst of the lot! I’ve used a silicone blender before and I just don’t really get it. Of course you dont lose your product like you can with sponges but personally it’s not worth it to compromise the blending finish! Of course a smooth base can be achieved with it but when you have back-to-back clients you don’t really have time to dab for hours to get a smooth base! I will definitly be sticking with my BeautyBlender but to be fair this could come in handy for applying skincare products.

I’m really happy with every product this month and i’m happy the iconic pink box is back! The packaging is unreal and for me, no other beauty boxes i’ve tried are near the quality of Glossy Box!

June/July Edit: My Current Favourite Cosmetic Products.

Recently I’ve been stocking up on all sorts of new products. Some I’ve purchased through recommendations, some impulse buys, some gifts and some from monthly subscription boxes.

The first three products I’m going to show you were some of the ones purchased for me by my lovely boyfriend. On a recent holiday to Crete, we shopped in Heraklion city and stumbled upon a Sephora. My face absolutely lit up! After stepping in, he leaned in and whispered to me to ‘choose what I like’ – his treat! Absolute sweetheart. The next two products are from my Glossy Box (which was really good in June!) and the last two are purchases I made myself.

GlamGlow GlowStarter in ‘Sun Glow’

I loveeeee this product and I haven’t seen anything just like it on the market. It’s a moisturiser and primer in one. Basically, it’s a daily moisturiser with a tint and shimmer which really illuminates the skin and leaves you with a glowing base. It comes in a few colours but I went for the darkest one (it’s still Sheer) so I can get a nice bronzed glow. It smells amazing but very strong so if you’re not into heavy scents then this isn’t for you. I only use it in the morning of course, but it’s hydrating enough for me at the minute so I love it! Highly recommend.

Inglot Gel Eyeliner in 77

This is the best, blackest gel eyeliner on the market in my opinion. When training in makeup I was told about this but never purchased it for some reason. I couldn’t live without it now! I use it on myself and on my clients and it gives the most amazing black pigment. You can find some images of makeup I’ve done with this product on my Instagram. If you want a really black Liner that’s easy to blend and soft enough to be used on the waterline – this is the one!

Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer in Very Fair

Another Sephora purchase, this concealer is  dreamy. It’s so soft and flawless once applied with a beauty blender. I went for the lightest shade so I could use it to really brighten up the under eye area and it’s the perfect shade for me. The only criticism I have is that it does crease a lot so really does need setting with a loose powder (and still creases a bit under the eye). I’ve read other people’s reviews saying the same. I still love this concealer though and it offers the perfect coverage for me.

Model Co Contour Stick

This product came in my June Glossy Box. I’ve used it a few times now already and I really like it! It’s got a very freaky texture so blends instantly with a fluffy brush. It works perfectly with a powder bronzer to set it, or can be left as it is if you’d rather a more dewy look. It’s not actually super dark, despite it looking dark before application so it would be good on quite a lot of skin tones as a small amount can be used or it can be layered up. I’d definitely look at the range now having tried this! I used it on this makeup look on my Instagram.

Manna GLO Illuminator

Another Glossy Box product – I really like this! It’s not super pigmented so I think it’s nice to add a bit more glow during the day. It can be mixed with foundation or dotted on the high points of the face – or both if you want to really glow! It has a pinky tint but it doesn’t show up on the skin. It allows you to illuminate the skin without making it look or feel greasy. Highly recommend.

Bioactive Skincare Organic Virgin Olive Oil Day Cream

I picked this up from Holland and Barrat for just a few pounds (I think maybe £8?) after receiving a sample in store. I’ve always used expensive skincare but I really liked how this felt and the fact it’s organic is a bonus! My skins feeling amazing after a couple of months of this and the fact it’s so cheap and lasts so long is amazing!

Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster

These little miracle drops are a life saver when you need to spruce your complexion up a little! You simply add 1, 2 or 3 drops into your usual face cream depending on how dark you want to tan your skin. I always use 3 drops and it gives a nice natural glow not orange or fake looking. I’ve also added it to my morning facecream under my makeup to gain some colour as the day goes on and it works perfectly for that too. Much better than pore-clogging fake tan on your face!

There’s many more products I love at the minute and maybe a few more on order… oops. What products are you loving at the moment? Let me know!

Oily or spot-prone skin? Try out these tips and products.

Today I read an article on Cosmopolitan all about Kendall Jenner’s skincare routine as recommend by the pricey doctors she has visited. Okay so most people can’t afford these skin doctors for themselves, nor the products that can maintain your skin so here’s a few tips so EVERYONE can get flawless skin.

Wash gently. I think we’re all guilty of scrubbing the life out of the smallest pimple, in a desperate attempt to ‘clean’ it out. As mentioned in the Cosmo article by Dermatologist Dr Kidd, this simply  exasperates the situation by inflaming the skin even more. Simply use a cleansing wash with your fingers and forgot about harsh scrubs, sonic brushes and wash cloths. If you do feel like you want the occasional deep clean, Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is a soft powder that you mix into a paste to create a gentle daily scrub. Use this once a week or so.

Don’t avoid moisturiser. So many girls I know that have spots or acne, think they can’t use moisturiser because they’re ‘too oily’. Don’t swap one problem for another! Even the oiliest skin needs hydration and they could do wanders for your skin. Also, you really want to avoid that ‘crusty’ look you can sometimes get when you apply foundation over the top of unhydrated skin! Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion has an oil-free formula that hydrates whilst reducing shine and preventing future breakouts.

Use makeup that is suitable for your particular skin. We all listen to our friends when they tell us they’ve found a MUST-HAVE foundation. But you need to choose your foundation etc that works for your skin type. The Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation Primer is ideal for smoothing your skin before makeup, without clogging it up. Also, the Silk Creme Oil-Free Photo Edition Foundation will give you great coverage without the oily residue and comes in 12 shades! Bare minerals powder foundations are also fantastic for soaking up oil and not clogging the skin, however they tend to be too drying for me so they may not be suitable if you do get some dryness.

In addition, we all know the basics and they shouldn’t be overlooked! Drink PLENTY of water and green tea, and consider adding a multivitamin to your routine such as Nudey Tea Multivitamins (and don’t forget code HELEN at the checkout for a nice discount!) eat well, avoid sugar and dairy where possible and get plenty of sleep!

Honest Forever Aloe Vera review from a non-distributor.

I’ve been lucky enough to have been sent a Sonya Skin Care Collection plus a Forever Aloe Scrub for me to trial and give an honest, genuine review. I have not been paid for this review and all of the views inside are truthful and formed from my own opinions.

The kit contains the Deep-Cleansing Exfoliator, Purifying CleanserBalancing Creme, Refreshing Toner and Nourishing Serum. The booklet within claims that the formulation of aloe Vera, fruit extracts, white tea and moisturisers will help to rejuvenate and moisturise the skin ‘like never before’. I’m going to put these claims to the test!

I’ll be the first to admit I’ve long been skeptical about distributor companies such as Forever as my first thought is always ‘you would say it’s good – you’re selling it!’ But I genuinely have heard some great things about Forever, which made me instantly agree to try the range out. Plus I have an obsession with all things skincare, so that helped!

My first impression based on packaging is very positive. The collection is very well presented in a fold over box with delicate purples and a chic, simple design.

I’ve decided the best way to really see how good the individual products are is to try each product separately as well as altogether.

Deep-Cleansing Exfoliator

This is the first product I’ve tried from the Sonya Skincare Collection. I’m heading off to Egypt tomorrow, and always love to give my face and body a really good scrub before I go abroad to help with the tanning process. This product can be used on your face AND body which is great because it saves on cost (and luggage space!). I squeezed a walnut size amount of the scrub onto my hand thinking it would just be enough for my legs, but it easily was enough for my whole body which was a pleasant surprise! It’s nice and rough which I like in a scrub and doesn’t leave behind a residue like a lot of scrubs do! So far, so good! This product will definitely be coming abroad with me to assist with clearing my skin of salt from diving, sun cream etc.

Aloe Balancing Cream

This was the other product that joined me on my trip to Egypt. The Balancing Creme has such a fresh citrus scent that it instantly feels fresh from the moment you take the lid off. It had a very smooth and light texture, almost more like a thick serum than my usual creamy moisturisers. When abroad, it’s important not to overload your skin since you already ply it with suncream and get clogged up with sweat, chlorine etc. This moisuriser worked perfectly for just a light, fresh feeling moisturiser that didn’t feel overly heavy. I do tend to get quite dry skin in the autumn winter months so I won’t be carrying this particular product over into my winter routine as it’s just not heavy enough. However I would definitely use it over the summer months and recommend to those who don’t need a luxurious moisturiser in the winter.

Aloe Purifying Cleanser, Aloe Refreshing Toner and Aloe Nourishing Serum

My skin was so bad upon returning home from Egypt, that I decided to throw in all of the products, in an attempt to clear up my breakout. The Cleanser is creamy and again has that fresh citrus scent which instantly leaves you feeling clean and refreshed. It claims to help remove makeup and impurities from the skin which I do agree it does. It’s slightly annoying you have to rinse it off with water after using it, because id rather go straight into the next steps (having washed my face before the cleanser) but all in all, a good product.

The Toner doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight and dry like most others I’ve tried. If I’m totally honest, I generally don’t use toners even though I know I should. I’ll definitely continue with this one as I feel confident it won’t dry my skin out this A/W season.

To me, the Serum feels very similar to the moisturiser, but of course it performs a different function (targeting the lower layers of skin). It again is consistent with the fresh smell and feel as the other Sonya products which I love. However, similar to the moisturiser, I’m not entirely sure it would be luxurious and thick enough in winter for my own skin type. It is a lovely product that I’d recommend if you don’t need a whole lot of moisture.

I’ve decided to continue the trial for a few more days whilst my skin calms down, so I can get a more clear idea of how good the products are for me.

Whilst in egypt, my lovely roomie Hannah gave the aloe scrub a go to remove the impurities left behind from a hot day of diving and suncream etc. She was really happy with the product and said it was up there with some of the bigger brands she has tried.

I decided to treat my boyfriend to a little facial (he loves a pamper!) and I used all of the products on him. He liked how his skin felt after and also liked the scent as its not overly feminine like others.

You can purchase all of these products as a set which comes in the beautiful box I received. This comes in at around £130 which when you break it down, isn’t a lot considering all of the products that you can inside it. You can order here.

Forever also offers a range of supplements that I’ve not personally tried, but do come with amazing reviews. In particular, the C9 Cleanse which has seen people losing pounds and stones! Also, bee pollen supplements and aloe drinking gel. You can check out these products for whatever suits you here.

Estée Lauder New Dimension review

Estée Lauder are always updating their current products and introducing new ranges to keep our skin looking and feeling smooth. It’s been a long time favourite brand of mine for skincare. The newest range is ‘New Dimension’ which involves a serum, contour kit and eye contour kit and expert liquid tape. The products are designed to contour the face and give a more sculpted, firm look.

I always take care of my skin (mainly Estée Lauder products) so wasn’t exactly banging on selfridges door trying to grab this product, but when I was walking through, I spoke with my regular EL consultant and she handed me a sample of the new serum (she knows I love to try new products and tend to purchase them!). She told me that the product has exfoliating properties and exposed the fresh layers of skin, therefore not to use for a week before holiday sun exposure. I’m heading out to Egypt in a week for more diving, so I’ve only been able to use the product for a couple of days but already I LOVE IT. I can’t wait to start using it again!

The website states that the serum transforms the skin, leaving it plumped, smooth and more refined – with a good majority of those who tested agreeing. It can be used day and night, and I’ve used it for 2 days and 2 nights. Already, my skin is feeling silky and fresh and looks radiant even without makeup. I would go as far as to say it’s a ‘must-have’ product. I currently use the Enlighten and Night Repair serums but after sampling this, I will be swapping over!

At £62 for 30ml or £88 for 50ml – it’s pricey. But if your skin is a priority then go for it. I’d say it’s great for any skin type whether you’re dry or oily. For dry skin, it will hydrate and remove dead skin cells. For oily skin, it will leave it feeling refreshed and smooth. Obviously speak with your local EL consultant whether it’s right for you, but I do love it!

I’m yet to try the rest of the range but I have a particular interest in the expert liquid tape. It’s used before any other skincare products, on clean skin and does pretty much the same as the serum with tightening and encouraging collegen in the skin to promote a firm, contoured look. Go into your local counter and they’re always more than happy to try the products out on you and give you samples so you can be sure you love your products before you splash out!

Happy shopping X

Goodbye, July. My July Top Picks.

Perhaps this post is a couple of days late, but I thought I’d do a little post detailing some of the things I’ve loved this July. As I’ve celebrated my 21st birthday, I’ve had lots of nice treats to try out! Here’s my top picks.

1) Australasia – Spinningfields.

On my 21st, after my graduation ceremony (busy day!) we headed to Australasia in Spinningfields, Manchester. I’ve been before to this Asian Fusion restaurant and it never fails to impress me with the food, drinks and decor. It feels super exclusive heading downstairs and the selection of sushi, delicious dishes and cocktails are exceptional. Make sure you try the chocolate dome!

2) All things Elemis.

I’ve been loving the Papaya Enzyme Peel, Exotic Moisture Mask and Skin Bliss Capsules that I picked up on my spa weekend. I suffer from dry skin so these are all really hydrating and are keeping my skin glowing.

3) Nutribullet.

I’ve mentioned previously that I’ve used this every single day since I got it! I’ve been enjoying making new recipes up with different fruits and leafy greens – I would totally recommend this for any health-lovers like me!

4) WheyHey Protein Ice Cream.

On the rare sunny days in England, it’s nice to have grab a frozen treat and WheyHey offer an amaaaaazing guilt free one. One 150ml tub contains 20g protein and tastes delicious! I think it has an almost sticky/chewy consistency and comes in a range of flavours. You can pick some up in Holland and Barrat or online Here.

5) Fudge Make-A-Mends Shampoo and Conditioner.

I picked these up from the wholesalers and I’m loving how silky they’re keeping my hair. I always like to spend a little more on good hair products, with having bleach on my locks. You can snap some up online Here.

6) All things Missguided.

The affordable fashion site has so much to offer right now that I can’t choose what to buy, I want it all! I picked up a few items already and I know for sure I’ll be making an order this August. Take a look for yourself Here.

7) Muji Aroma Diffuser.

This is one of the many gorgeous gifts I received from my lovely boyfriend, after he’s noticed me lusting after them in selfridges for ages. I adore things like this and always have scented candles and oil burners on so this is perfect for me as it vapour uses water and essential oils and produces a scented must that fills the house. My favourite oil so far is the Mandarin one. You can purchase online Here or visit selfridges.

These are just a few of the things I’ve loved this month and I’ll be sure to post next months up on time!

Hoar Cross Hall Spa Weekend

As I turn 21 tomorrow (21st July), my Mum treated me to a gorgeous spa weekend, just like she did for my elder sisters on their 21st’s! Apart from abroad on holidays, I’ve never actually had a spa weekend so this was such a treat and my kind Mum went all out for it! We arrived on Saturday early afternoon and left on Sunday early evening so we had plenty of time to pamper!

I will try almost anything in the name of beautifying and detoxing etc so I was super keen to use the ice old plunge pool and freezing showers which supposedly detox your skin. I wasn’t brave enough at first but I forced myself in and it was actually so refreshing!! There was also body jets, hot and cold sprays/jets/waterfalls, heated stone seats with massaging water jets, hot tubs, sauna, steam room, 2 pools…. Basically everything you could want from water therapy! I love trying all of these things out but my mum isn’t so keen! I love the fact everyone walks around in their bikinis, robes and slippers! It’s so chilled.

I had three amaaaaazing treatments – 2 on the first day and one the next day. The first was the Rose Hydrator which involved an all over body scrub, being covered in luxury oils and creams and wrapped up, finishing with a scalp massage. I left feeling super soft and silky!

My next treatment was the Elemis Facial. This is tailored to your particular skin type and my therapist adjusted the products according to my dry skin. I’ve been suffering with dryness on my forehead and eyelids at the moment and I can honestly say that these were about 70% better after the facial! The products felt and smelt amazing.

My final treatment was a full body Hot Stone Massage. I have always carried quite a lot of tension in my shoulders and tend to have knots there, so it was quite painful having those massaged out but I feel much better for it! I would recommend all of the treatments I had if you guys ever visit the spa.

We spent the rest of the day using the facilities and reading by the pool. I downloaded ‘Looking for Alaska’ by John Green a while ago and started reading but never got chance to properly get into it as I had my exams. I’m now 90% through and I LOVE it. It’s so thought provoking and the story line is brilliantly unpredictable. It was nice just to be able to chill and do nothing except read and relax.

The amount we ate this weekend is kind of rediculous! We had lunch and dinner on the first day, then breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea on the second day. Lunch and dinner are both three course meals! You can imagine how full we were (but we still managed most of it!). The meals were brilliant and thoroughly enjoyed.

As an additional treat, my mum purchased some of the Elemis products used in my facial for me. I chose the Papaya Enzyme Peel, Exotic Moisture Mask and Skin Bliss Capsules. I’m excited to use these products and will be blogging the results! I’m excited equally about them all – the Papaya Enzyme Peel removed the dead skin cells, while the Exotic Moisture Mask hydrates the skin and can even be used as an overnight treatment. The Skin Bliss Capsules (which I used once a while ago and loved) are to be used as a course 3 times a year – the contain 30 days worth of capsules both day and night, with different scents and oils.

On the whole, we were really happy with the weekend. We had a lovely room, comfortable beds, everything was clean and nice and the food and treatments were spot on. However, there are a couple of negatives we both pointed out. The meal time service wasn’t totally up to scratch – absolutely no fault of the staff! The staff were lovely and tried to be attentive but they were totally understaffed so they were rushed off their feet. This meant that we were sat for hours to have a meal and left a number of times without drinks. For our evening meal, we couldn’t get a booking until 8.45pm and weren’t shown to our table until past 9.00pm. We didn’t end up finishing the meal until around 11.30pm! It wasn’t ideal but we still enjoyed it.

The second thing I’d comment on is the treatment times. My Mum and I both checked the times of our treatments and each and every one of them was 10-15 minutes shorter than we had paid for! It’s understandable that they need to set up for the next client, but that time shouldn’t be taken from the treatment times.

I will definitely be booking future visits to Hoar Cross Hall and I now feel perfectly refreshed and ready for the rest of my 21st celebrations.

Argan Oil Review.

I have a bit of an obsession with dewy, flowing faces, smooth and soft skin, and glossy, silky hair…. Basically all things ‘hydration’!! With this in mind, I always jump at anything that claims to offer a good shot of hydration.

I think it’s safe to say that most of us associate quality with price… High price – high quality. Low price – low quality. Right? Wrong.

My aunty was recently telling my mum all about these new hair products she had tried and loved! They’re basically a range of Argan Oil hair products which sounds all very normal and well with the world going Argan Oil mad at the moment.. But there’s a catch.

These products are from POUND LAND! Yep, pound land. A pound each. 100 pence. They can’t be any good, surely? Wrong again. I’ve started using this range out of curiousity and I’ve been pleasantly surprised. When it comes to my hair, I usually splash out a little and use Bed Head or Wella products because I assume they’re better for my bleached hair.

Here’s a few products that I’ve purchased (note that there is a few more that I’m yet to try in this range!)

Shampoo, conditioner, treatment mask and heat defence leave in spray.

The shampoo and conditioner do feel a little runny but it’s not a problem once the product actually hits your hair. The shampoo still lathers up and the conditioner still coats the hair nicely.

The mask is creamy and oily in a nice way. After soaking my hair in this for a while whilst I was in the bath, my hair was left luscious and silky and with a healthy gloss.

This leave in spray is the perfect finish before blow drying and styling your hair. It’s always a good idea to defend your hair from the every day styling heat and a little extra moisture to get you through the day is only a good thing.

All in all, I’d give these products an 7/10. They have brilliant hydrating properties and have left my bleached hair feeling lovely. They’re also amazing considering the rediculously low price! They also small fantastic.  The only down side is the runnyness which takes away a certain hint of luxury and means you have to use more product than normal. I would definitely recommend getting down to your local pound shop/pound land/ b&m etc and picking some of this up!

Beauty Fad: Coconut Oil Pulling

When it comes to beauty products, treatments and procedures, I will try almost anything once. A huge craze at the moment is ‘oil pulling’ which is the process of swishing a teaspoon of coconut oil around your mouth for 20 minutes at a time.

Oil pulling, also known as “kavala” or “gundusha” is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that supposedly draws out toxins in your body to improve both oral and overall health. The recent trend seems to be more focused around the teeth whitening benefits but the additional benefits shouldn’t be overlooked.

coconut oil

Alleged benefits include:

  • Whiter teeth
  • Cavity prevention
  • Better breath
  • Stronger teeth and gums
  • Reduced jaw pain
  • Improved sleep and sinus issues
  • Headache relief
  • Hangover relief
  • Improved skin issues (acne, psoriasis and eczema)

Coconut oil is said to make a great substitute for mouthwash due to the antioxidant Vitamin E that it contains, and the anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties due to the lauric acid and monolaurin. There is little conclusive evidence to prove beyond doubt that oil-pulling really does have all the proposed benefits, however it absolutely wont do you any harm (unless you have an allergy to it – always test on a small patch of skin first!) so it’s certainly worth a try! Besides, there are many reports of people claiming to see amazing benefits from it.

white teeth

There are clashing views on how this should be done, with some claiming that it should be carried out each day for two weeks, some once a week and some once a fortnight. Some claim a tablespoon, some claim a teaspoon. Some claim you should swish for 10 minutes, some for 20. I currently oil pull less than I should to see the results, but I’m going to make a conscious effort to pull every 2 days or so, or at least each week if that fails. I use a teaspoon at a time; this is because it expands massively in your mouth as it gathers the toxins and saliva. I personally think any more than a teaspoon would just be too much!

I have recently read that you should swish with salt water immediately after, and then continue with brushing and flossing. Again, this differs from other reports that I’ve read which claim that this could damage the enamel on the teeth. I’m going to try it this time and see how I feel with it.

My Technique:

  • Place one teaspoon of coconut oil in my mouth (it begins hard but melts after a few seconds from the heat of your mouth)
  • Set a timer for 20 minutes
  • Swish until the end of the timer
  • Dispel into the bin (it can solidify and block your drains if dispelled down the sink)
  • Swish for 30 seconds with warm, lightly salted water
  • Brush and Floss

I personally find that my teeth seem more white and shiny immediately after pulling, so I’m quite looking forward to how my teeth will look after I’ve pulled more often. I lead a healthy lifestyle with other detoxifying methods like drinking green tea and lemon water daily so I’m unsure on the positive effects of drawing out toxins and detoxifying but I would love to hear from you if you’ve tried and noticed anything!

Coconut oil is such a wonderful product because it has so many uses! I often cover my hair in it and leave it to soak in for a few hours for a natural hair treatment. I also cook with it and use it as lip balm or on dry skin. If you’ve not jumped on the hype yet, I would seriously recommend it! I personally love the taste of coconut but of course some might not- but honestly you can’t taste it when you cook with it!

vita coco

My suggestion is that you don’t spend your money on these sachets of oil that are currently on the market. The only difference they have is the added flavour (mint, lemon, vanilla etc) but they retail at £19.99 for 14 sachets. I use Vita Coco which costs £5 – £7 and can be found online or in your local Tesco – this would contain months and months of oil pulling at a fraction of the price than the sachets! Let me know in the comments if you have tried it and how you found it – and also if you have any extra tips for me!

Water: Why We Should ALL Be Drinking More.

We all know the importance of keeping hydrated with plenty of water, so why is it that at least one in five women in the UK consumes less than the recommended daily intake?

Government guidelines suggest 2 litres for men, and 1.6 litres for women as a daily minimum but many doctors and researchers suggest up to 3 litres per day. Personally, 1.6 litres wouldn’t be nearly enough for me. I probably drink around 2 litres of water plus 4 cups of green tea per day and I very much notice when I’ve not had enough! My skin starts to feel tight and I feel lethargic and fatigued.

There are many health benefits linked to drinking plenty of water. The adult human body is made up of up to 60% water and every system and function of our body depends on H2o. It flushes toxins from the vital organs, carries nutrients to cells, provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues and eliminates waste from the body. When you starve yourself of the sufficient amount of water, all of these functions become impaired.

Water acts as a lubricant within the body, even encouraging better flexibility in the joints which is beneficial for everyone of all ages. It has natural stress receiving properties, even just the sound of waves or running water triggers a soothing response in the body and lowers stress.

Aside from the medical benefits, drinking plenty of water comes with many beauty benefits. It keeps skin youthful and less likely to dry out, therefore plumping the appearance of wrinkles and giving a dewy look. It creates a glossy hydrated look on the hair and keeps the cuticles hydrated.

It helps to burn fat and contains no calories. It also helps build healthy muscle as it carries oxygen to the cells that build and strengthen the muscle tissue. An imbalance if electrolytes leads to discomfort, such a muscle fatigue – drinking water helps maintain this proper balance needed to strengthen muscles. And we all know the importance of hydrating throughout a workout, particularly cardiovascular where you’re loosing fluids through sweat.

Water has healing properties and can help the body heal faster when sick or undergoing treatments. It helps to protect the bodies organs and tissues and helps lessen the burden on your kidneys and liver to flush out toxins and other waste products.

These are just some of the main benefits – there is an endless amount of benefits from drinking water. It is such a basic thing that we all take for granted yet it is so important to make your body function well. I challenge all of my readers to drink 3 litres of water per day for the next month, and see if you feel any differences. Let me know in the comments below.

Tips For Drinking More Water
• Infuse for a few hours with different flavours – citrus fruits, strawberries, ginger, cucumber, mint leaves… These all contribute their own health benefits whilst making your water a bit more interesting.

• Work out how much you should be drinking each hour and mark it off on a large bottle, that way you’ll know you’re on track and won’t feel the need to down a tone of water in the evening!
