Makeup Styling For The Protein Bakery Press Shoot

Hi everyone!

I just sat down with a big mug of tea to update my blog with what I’m up to. I sometimes struggle to sit back and find the time to reflect on my going’s-on and share them but it’s important, especially as I’d love to look back in the future and see how far I’ve progressed.

Today I worked on an exciting project with The Protein Bakery which was organised by Ledigo PR. We had a great team, with @hairbysophie _m on the hair, @jadekaty and @southweather84 on photography and myself creating the makeup look. Then model for the day was the director of The Protein Bakery, Laura Jackson. She thought up the concept in her own kitchen and is now set to sell her products in January 2018, launching in supermarkets and major online companies.

A little bit about the company…

So, how many of you get cravings on a regular basis for cakes, cookies, donuts etc? Especially when you’re on a diet! The Protein Bakery has created a new concept of protein fortified goodies to curb cravings for real (a bog standard protein bar just doesn’t cut it) whilst remaining clean and adding to your daily protein intake. I have sampled the range and I have to say they genuinely taste like your normal baked goods – the Salted Caramel Cookie is unreal! They don’t have that protein after taste that you get with so many protein products.

What I really love about the range is that it appeals to so many people. So many people can feel intimidated by the fitness and protein industry and feel that maybe the usual protein bars and shakes etc we see in stores are aimed at uber-toned, fitness addicts. That’s where The Protein Bakery is different and appeals to EVERYONE whether you’re sculpting your six pack or simply trying to make healthier choices.

Back to the makeup…

We wanted a ‘Nigella’ feel to the look so we kept it all matte and neutrals. I used YSL foundation and brown and nude eyeshadows from Kiko Milano. The brows were filled with light strokes of MAC Spike and brushed with a clear brow gel for a soft, ‘barely done’ look. I didn’t use any contouring or highlighting for this look as I really wanted it to remain fresh and simple, so I simply defined the cheek bones and lifted the skin tone using Dior blusher. The look was finished with some light strip-lashes, Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in Penelope Pink and set with Sport FX setting spray. The final look was girly and soft and perfect for the day time but with that extra glam!

Keep an eye out on The Protein Bakery’s Instagram to be the first to get your hands on the products and the chance to win some competitions they have coming up!

IMG_7255IMG_7256IMG_7257IMG_7258IMG_7259IMG_7260IMG_7261IMG_7262Hey everyone,

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll probably know by now that I absolutely LOVE Lounge Underwear. It must be a couple of years ago now that I first saw them on Instagram and fell in love at first site with their original triangle bra and panty set with a thick branded band. They’ve come on so much since then and now include leggings and sports bra’s, a wide range of colours and shapes and the most beautiful intimate sets.

I was over the moon when I was asked to become an ambassador for them (I must add that this post is NOT sponsored or paid in any way, I just genuinely want to share my love for the brand). I’ve been lucky enough to be sent lots of goodies from them and they’ve become a staple in my wardrobe.

The original sets are so comfortable for daily wear but you still feel stylish, sexy and cool. There’s so many colour ways – Khaki, grey, red, white, pink – just to name a few! There’s different shapes and fabrics – the Lace ones are so beautiful! There really is something for everyone.

The latest edition from Lounge is their ‘intimates’ Range. I’ve been so lucky to be sent the Isabella set – a beautifully delicate bra, panties and suspended belt complete with their stunning rose gold tab for that little extra luxury.

I genuinely believe in this brand – that’s why I’m so proud to be one of their ambassadors. The quality is always spot on and there’s such a huge range of carefully designed products that they can please every customer. Just a quick look at their Instagram @LoungeUnderwear shows that they’re loved by everyone of all different shapes and sizes!

Billion Dollar Smile – Review

It’s so important as a model to have a gleaming smile but it can be so hard to achieve.

The lovely people over at Billion Dollar Smile were so kind as to send me over one of their teeth whitening kits with an LED light and tray and 3 syringes of solution to brighten up my teeth.

I’m really into keeping my teeth nice and always brush 2-3 times a day, use mouth wash and regularly floss. Usually I’d just use coconut oil to whiten my teeth but sometimes they need an extra little push to really get them gleaming.

The first time I used the kit, I was really pleased with how easy it was to use! All you have to do is apply half a syringe of solution into the mould, pop it in and switch it on! Simple. I use it when I get ready in the morning because I can even apply my makeup with it in.

Whitening products I’ve used in the past have hurt my gums and/or left me with sensitive teeth but the non peroxide gel hasn’t given me any irritation or pain whatsoever. I was actually really surprised when I rinsed my teeth and could see visible results after the first application!

I will confess I’ve not used it as directed – once a day for 6 days – because I’ve not always found the time or I’ve forgotten. But I’ve actually still seen impressive results – so imagine using the course all in one go!

I’ll definitely be using Billion Dollar Smile as a safe and effective go-to product when my teeth need brightening back up again.

You can pick up your own kit Here!

I’ve been so lucky as to shoot in Cyprus and Egypt – but mainly good old Manchester! I’ve worked with some really cool photographers as well, I love seeing the different ideas and visions that they create and how I transform from shot to shot.

EatCleanTea – Matcha Green Tea Review.

I’ve been a huge fan of Matcha since my favourite local cafe began serving Matcha Latte’s. I hadn’t initially realised just quite how versatile Matcha was until I began seeing it EVERYWHERE. Fruity iced matcha, matcha icecream, matcha energy balls…. Anything you can think of, within reason.

I’m very much into looking after my body and remaining as natural as possible. I personally believe that keeping natural in food, drinks, skincare etc is the best possible thing you can do for your body – keep it as nature intended. The world today is full of nasty toxins and everything is becoming processed, which goes a long way in explaining the poor health many face.

Anyway, I was so excited about this package as I’ve been reading up all about the benefits of matcha. I’m obsessed with green tea as it is, and matcha amplifies all of the health benefits of ordinary green tea, as it is made from the ground leaves. Here’s a few of the many health benefits:

  • It is packed with antioxidants
  • It boosts metabolism and burns calories
  • It calms the mind and relaxes the body, whilst boosting memory and concentration
  • It’s rich in fibre and many vitamins such as Vitamin C, selenium, chromium, zinc and magnesium
  • It prevents disease
  • It lowers cholesterol and blood sugar
  • It increases energy levels and endurance
  • It’s all natural (when bought from a reliable source such as EatCleanTea)
  • It tastes amazing!

So EatCleanTea have three flavours: Original, Matcha and Mint, Matcha and Ginger. All three are totally natural and of the highest quality but I opted for Original this time as I know I love the taste. I can’t wait to try the other flavours though! Since receiving the package, I have religiously drank Matcha Latte’s with either soya milk or almond milk. I prefer the sweeter milks than the original, but I’ve also tried adding a little agave nectar which added a really nice natural sweetness.

I’m yet to try my matcha cold, but tomorrow at some point, I’ll be throwing some ice and water into my nutribullet to give it a go! I think it’ll be amazing with a little apple juice and maybe some fruits soaked in. There’s so many recipes online and on the EatCleanTea website and Instagram (@eatcleantea) so even if you’re not a fan of hot drinks, it’s still a must-have purchase!

Below, I’ll tell you how I make the perfect Matcha Latte using soya milk and the EatCleanTea whisker (which makes it so much easier not to get pesky lumps!)

  1. Add two scoops of matcha to your favourite mug
  2. Add a small amount of hot water and use the whisker to blend away any lumps
  3. Full the mug with your milk of choice
  4. Pop in the microwave for 1 minute (you don’t want it piping hot as it will ruin the tea)
  5. Whisk once more to create a froth
  6. Enjoy

You can purchase yours at EatCleanTea and do let me know if you think of any interesting recipes for your Matcha! #TeamMatcha

Clean PB/White Choc ‘Cookie-Dough’ Bites.

Good afternoon!

Scrolling through instagram, it’s easy to see that a lot of people on a health kick sacrifice taste in order to get their dream bod. Plain chicken, bland rice and some soggy broccoli is all good and nutritious, but how sustainable is a diet where you don’t have any enjoyment from what you’re eating?

I find people struggle with snacking healthily. Too much fruit and you’ll be over your sugar levels, rice cakes are bland and not especially nutritious, shop-bought bars can contain all sorts of nasties and calories…. This leads to snackers breaking their diet and reaching for sugary, processed junk.

In comes my clean PB/White choc cookie dough bites….. The guilt free way to curb sweet cravings and snack without breaking the diet. What’s even better is that you can add all sorts into the recipe to make it your own!

What you’ll need:

  • Scottish Oats
  • Agave nectar/honey/alternative
  • No Added Sugar/Palm Oil free peanut butter
  • White chocolate chips
  • Almond milk (or alternative)

You’ll notice I’ve not added amounts onto the ingredients list. The reason behind this is that it’s really personal choice, so just play around and see how you get on.

  1. Blend oats in a nutribullet or blender until they’re a fine powder/flour.
  2. Add peanut putter (I used around half a tub) a few squeezes of agave nectar (depending on how sweet you like them!)
  3. Slowly add small amounts of almond milk and mix until the texture is that of cookie dough.
  4. Add white chocolate chips or get creative with dried fruits, coconut flakes, dark chocolate etc. You could also add flavour drops or spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.
  5. You’ll now need to shape your cookie dough. This can be done in balls or flattened out like I did. Lay on grease proof paper.
  6. Leave at room temperature or chill if preferred.
  7. Enjoy!

Mini Drugstore Makeup Haul

I will be the first to admit, I can be a bit of a makeup snob! I’m absolutely aware that there’s some amazing dupes, but I don’t get the same buzz from a Superdrug or Boots bag, that I do a Selfridges or Chanel one (don’t try and lie and say you do). That being said, I do like to dabble with some high street/drugstore brands for those non-necessity items or ones that I won’t be using on a daily basis. We all love a bargain.

I took a wander into town today and stopped by the 3 for 2 offer in Superdrug. There was a couple of basic things I needed but as always, I spent ages browsing allllll of the makeup. I’m always drawn to the MUA stand, they seem to always be up to date with the latest beauty hypes and they’re popping up on blogs all over the place. Not to mention it’s incredibly cheap!

I decided to try out their radiance under eye concealer as soon as I’ve bought it home. It doesn’t leave fine line creases like a lot of concealers I’ve tried which is good, however I hadn’t realised there’s a light shimmer to it. So I will see how I get on with it properly over the next few days! I’m not too worried at just £2.99. Also from MUA, an eyeshadow called ‘Golden’. I’m always a fan of warm colours on the face with golds and bronzes being my favourite so I thought I may as well test it out for the this summer at only £1!

I needed a clear mascara for my brows after being constantly told by my brow queen Ella that I need to push them up with it each day. I’m on a quest for absolute super model brows, so I’ve been brushing them up constantly but this will just help them stay in place a little longer. Since the quality wasn’t really important for this, I just went for the £2.99 Miss Sporty clear mascara.

Next up, Maybelline New York – Master Ink in satin. This is a black liquid eyeliner. There was the choice between Matte and Satin and I had no clue if I’m honest but I went for Satin anyway which came in at £4.99. Also from Maybelline, the Baby Lips Dr Rescue in Coral Crave. I like to pop on some lip balm whilst I do my makeup in the morning and throughout the day, there’s nothing worse than flakey lips! I’ve had a Baby Lips already but it was a little too pink, this is pretty much clear and has a light tingling sensation!

Finally, the Real Techniques – Miracle Complexion Sponge. I’ve wanted one for a while but actually been using some I got from Primark which I do love! It’ll be interesting to test the two against each other. I will do this in another blog post to test whether price really does mean quality!

Today I had a lovely delivery of the Real Techniques Bold Metals which I’ve wanted for ages! A powder brush, blush brush and eye brush which also will be making an appearance on the blog, since they’re too pretty to miss!

What are your favourite drug store products or what high-end products could you simply not substitute?

Oh Polly! Jumper Dress.

I love this grey tie-side jumper dress I’ve received from the lovely people at Oh Polly. I’ve looked everywhere for jumper dresses that doesn’t look frumpy and isn’t too long to sit with my thigh high boots. So this is PERFECT and I love the tie up with the cute bow on the side.

I styled mine with a messy bun and natural makeup for casual chic, and teamed it with my Steve Madden ‘Gorgeous Thigh Highs’ in Taupe. I think it would look cute with some heels and an over-sized clutch back for an evening look!

You can get yours from www.ohpolly.com along with some gorgeous other items at GREAT prices.

OGX hair products.

My hair has suffered so much over the years from over-processing on photoshoots, damage from scuba diving, years of bleaching….

I’ve recently had my roots slightly darker, fading down into the blonde really really subtly so that I can grow my roots down and avoid the damage of bleaching! Now my mission is to treat my hair the best I can to make it grow luscious and thick again. This includes avoiding brushing as much as possible and washing only every 2-3 days so my hair can rest and create natural oils! I found this picture which is my ultimate hair goals at the moment!

A while ago, my mum bought back some shampoo and conditioner that had been recommended to her. After looking at it, I realised it was the same brand as the coconut milk oil I had been using for years! I just remember being out shopping once and my hair felt dry so I randomly bought some pretty cheap oil (partly because I love coconut!) to stick on whilst I was out. And I actually fell in love. I do swear by it now and use it after every wash and between washes on dry hair if I need it, despite that not being on the instructions.

OGX coconut milk anti-breakage serum  contains coconut milk (obvs) and we all know that coconut is hailed as a massive beauty saviour. Also, egg white proteins – if they’re good enough for my diet, they’re good enough for my hair.

Ive now tried three of the different shampoos/conditioners they have on offer and my FAV are the  anti-breakage Keratin Oil ones. The keratin proteins and Argan oil leave my hair feeling luscious – not to mention the amazzzzze smell.

I do like the Argan Oil and Brazilian Keratin Smooth versions also but the pink is my ultimate.

There’s a whole massive range and you can find them in your local supermarkets, Boots or Superdrug and I’m sure many other retailers. All products are around £6-£7.

What hair products do you love? Swear by? Can’t live without? Let me know in the comments or tweet/Instagram me @heliemac1
