March Lust List

Happy Friday everyone! I can’t believe how fast the weeks are flying by this year. I’ve really wanted to blog more (I know I say this on everrrrry post I do) but I’m going to let myself off because I’ve been busy working hard, training hard, and generally enjoying life. I’ve been up to all sorts – cuddles with my new baby niece Eliza, Spa pampering and massages, long walks, catching up with old friends, eating out A LOT, shopping, just having a good time.

I’m sticking to my New Years resolution fitness wise. I’ve been using the app RUNTRAINER to help teach me run 5k. I’ve always been active with cardio but tend to do HIIT so my endurance isn’t where I want it to be. I’m going to carry on with it and challenge myself to some sort of sponsored run this year! After becoming an Advanced scuba diver from being a total novice, I want to continue challenging myself. Strength wise, I’m working hard on my booty and abs and also training my back and arms once or twice each week so I’m hoping to feel in great shape by summer.

Anyway, I’ve put together a little list of things I’m lusting over this month. I’m going to purchase a lottery ticket for this weekend so if I win (keep your fingers crossed for me) I’m going to add a house and a few luxury holidays onto my list! A girl can dream.

FitBit Charge 2

I’ve wanted one of these for agesssss but always end up spending my money on other things. I love the Charge 2 because it tracks your heart rate, activity and sleep but also looks quite subtle. I love the blue but the black is classic and probably more durable in terms of staining and visible scratching. I’d love to track my heart rate because according to the gym machines it’s through the roof! So it would be good to track it and work on balancing it. Oh and it’s pretty cool you can get your calls and texts through on it! Check them out here.
Freddy Jeans

If you haven’t seen these before – you’re going to love them! They’re special sculpting pants with cleverly placed seams to make your booty look AMAZING. I love skinny fit jeans and these two are my fav; regular waist denim jeans – classic and perfect for every day wear. Faux snake skin – I can’t stop wearing black at the moment and I’ve seen someone wear these ones and they look so nice! They can be dressed down in the day with boots or trainers or dressed up with heels for the evening so they’re really versatile. Definitely my favourites! You can have a browse at their many styles Here.
Bali Body Bronzing Lotion

I used Bali Body last year on my holidays and their products are just so luxurious in feel and smell. I have the watermelon oil and the sun lotion and LOVE them both for making my skin soft and smooth, and an all natural alternative to regular sun cream. It’s a little annoying how often you have to apply but I’d say it’s worth it! They’ve recently bought out this Luxe Bronzing Lotion which has a tint to give you a bronzed look whilst hydrating the skin with Vitamin E and natural oils. I LOVE a good tan and if I can get it whilst nourishing my skin, this can only be a good thing! Get your bronze glow Here.

Anastasia Beverley Hills Modern Renaissance Palette

This is just the ultimate palette in terms of the shades I love to use on my self. I swear I’m the only girl in the world who doesn’t have this? I’ve heard only good things about this palette. The Venetian Red, Raw Sienna and Realgar look like my dream shades! I’m not being dramatic when I say I will die if I do not own this palette soon.
Fearless shoes

I’m really funny about flat shoes, I rarely wear them except trainers (pretty much only in the gym) I usually always have at least a small heel! I love these cream espadrille style shoes and they have a Valentino style strap around the ankle which I adore! These cute little PomPom shoes are equally as cute! Now the weather is (I guess?) trying to get a little warmer/sunnier I need to invest in some cute little shoes like these. You can find these and loads of others on Fearless.

NARS Velvet Lip Glide – Unlaced, Stripped and Playpen.

When purchasing a few foundations (Nars Sheer Glow is unreal) for my makeup kit, the lady at the Nars counter popped in a sample of the velvet lip glide for me. It’s a really good size that’ll last me a while and I’m so glad because I LOVE it! It really does glide on beautifully and is the most comfortable liquid lipstick I’ve ever tried. It’s not totally matte, it has a velvet finish which I definitely prefer! It’s too easy to get a cracked look with a matte lippy. The three shades above are my favourite every day nudes but they’re all lovely! Pick yours up from your nearest counter or the NARS website.
Grey Feather Jacket

Top of my list fashion-wise is this grey feather jacket from Olive and Lile! I think it would go with soooo many looks and glam up any outfit! It’s ostrich feathers are ethically sourced which is important to me also! Must-have fashion purchase. Get yours in grey or a range of other colours from Olive and Lile.
So that’s a few of my fav things at the moment! Obviously, like many girly girls, it’s pretty much an endless list but these have made it to the top! Have you got any of these? Are they and things I should add? Let me know in the comments or on my Instagram @heliemac1

High protein, clean, vegetarian breakfast ideas.

Breakfast is probably my FAVOURITE meal of the day. I can’t be the only one who decides what they’re having for breakfast whilst lying in bed the night before? Not only is breakfast my favourite meal, it’s also the most important. You’re setting yourself up for the rest of the day’s diet and mindset – if you start the day off badly you’re more likely to make bad food choices throughout the day. Also, you’re fuelling yourself for a busy day ahead.

My mum is embarking on a new high-protein diet plan, however as a vegetarian, it can be hard to get the protein in. Therefore, we’ve started experimenting with different ideas.

I always try to get a good balance and protein and fruit/veg and also add a few good carbs into the mix. Understandably, most people don’t have the time to create beautiful breakfasts each morning but you can take inspiration to adapt to your lifestyle, and remember you can always prep the night before!

 Protein Porridge
I use the sachets of vanilla protein porridge from MyProtein – these are great if you’re on the go as well! I use almond milk and add a tablespoon of chia seeds for some extra nutrition. I like to add some fruit or have some on the side as well. These sachets pack 16g of protein per serving so you’ll have plenty of slow releasing energy throughout the day. A simple alternative is just adding a scoop of protein powder to your usual oats. You could prepare this the night before or take a sachet to work to pop in the microwave!

  Protein Pancakes
These Maple pancakes are another MyProtein product that adds ease to breakfast making. I simply add 1 1/2 scoops of pancake mix to almond milk, give it a stir and fry in coconut oil. Simple! You can sweeten if desired with honey, agave nectar or any syrup you fancy, or top with fresh fruit and nuts. The pancake mix packs a whopping 34g protein per serving and taste like an absolute treat. These can be made the night before and eaten cold or heated up in the microwave.

Scrambled Eggs and Avocado on Ryvita
Simple and fast! Half an avocado mashed, 2 eggs scrambled, on top of ryvita, a sprinkle of black pepper. Sorted! I teamed it up with some frozen berries and passion fruit.

  Chia Seed Pudding
I’ve spoken all about the wonders of Chia Seeds in a previous post. These magical littles seeds absorb liquid to create a pudding-like consistency that can be flavoured all sorts of ways. Add different nut milks, vanilla or almond essence, fruit, syrups, nut butters, anything!

Enjoy!

Cloud Bread: Carb-Free Gluten-Free Bread Alternative!

Just yesterday I stumbled across what I thought must be ‘click bait’ when I saw a link on Facebook claiming there was a carb-free gluten-free bread alternative…

Upon opening the link, I discovered IT’S TRUE. Well, it appears to be anyway. So of course I MUST try it. I adore bread but my stomach doesn’t agree with the gluten so if I can pull this off I will be amazed! A quick scan of Pinterest bought up a range of pictures, and you’ll probably agree they look amazing with sweet or savoury versions!

I’ve decided to go with garlic and rosemary to season mine. They’re in the oven as I type and smell amazing so I hope they turn out well…. Whilst I wait, il give you a few facts I’ve found.

So, they’re carb and gluten free as I mentioned so great if like me, your stomach doesn’t really agree with gluten or you’re on a low carb diet. However, they do contain more fat due to the cream cheese (I’ll tell you the full ingredients further down) but fats aren’t the enemy so don’t be too concerned about this. Also, they lack fibre but that’s not a problem as long as your overall diet is balanced.

What you’ll need:

  • 4 eggs
  • 3tbspns cream cheese
  • Half tsp sweetener
  • 1tspn bicarbonate of soda
  • Any seasoning you wish (I used garlic powder and dried rosemary)

Simple as that.

Method:

  • Pre-heat oven to 140•
  • Line trays with parchment paper.
  • Separate egg whites and yolks and put in two separate bowls.
  • To the yolks, add the cream cheese, sweetener and bicarbonate and mix until smooth. (I also added the garlic powder)
  • Whisk the egg whites until they create stiff peaks.
  • Fold the yolk/cheese mixture into the whites gently.
  • Spoon the mixture into discs on the parchment paper lined trays.
  • Sprinkle with rosemary if desired.
  • Pop in the oven for 15 minutes, check, leave for longer if necessary until golden brown. (Mine took around 25 minutes)
  • Gently peel from the parchment paper and cool on a rack.

Ta daaaaa! I had been really sceptical but they turned out well. They have a slightly eggy taste to them and a soft inside. Try adding some chicken and rocket for a light version of a sandwich! Let me know in the comments if you have/do try this!

The Yard On The Edge

You know that feeling when you wake up on a Monday morning and feel ready to go and make some positive choices for a productive day? Today was one of those days for me.

I met up with my friend Amy at the gym for a workout. Honestly, we usually end up doing more chatting than working out so when people came into the studio to start a class, we decided to stick around and try it out. It turned out to be HIIT (high intensity interval training) and absolutely killed us! It was cardio and full body weights – literally every muscle was targeted! So we thought we deserved a guilt free treat.

There’s not that many places where you can get REAL health food, not just limps salads and smoothies full of additives. So we headed down to Alderley Edge to visit The Yard. Everything is made with the finest ingredients and there’s plenty of creative, flavoursome choices of cold-pressed juices, health shots, smoothies, tea’s, meals and snacks.

Amy went for a salmon salad with kale and sweet potato that looked and smelt amazing, along with a cold-pressed juice with beetroot and carrot amongst other ingredients. I just wanted a snack so opted for an avocado and lime chia seed pudding and a raw ‘snickers’ ball. To wake me up, I also ordered a ginger, orange and turmeric shot – it literally blew my head off!!

They also have a shop full of health products and supplements, healing and chakra crystals, insence and Organic beauty products. My kind of shop! I could browse these sort of things for hours on end. I ended up purchasing some wheatgrass that I plan to add to my smoothies and soups.

Definitely pay it a visit if you’re looking for wholesome and healthy food and drinks that certainly don’t lack in flavour!

Breakfast Smoothie Recipe

Good morning!

I’ve recently celebrated my 21st birthday and one of the most useful gifts I received (from my sisters) is a NutriBullet! I’ve been dying for one of these for ages and I’ve actually used it every single day since I’ve had it! I’m preparing hard for Miss Scuba UK now so a smoothie makes a great breakfast to help get my body in the best shape, and also the vitamin rich ingredients can encourage glowing skin and healthy hair and nails.

I like to start my day with a good wholesome breakfast to keep me going through busy days so this smoothie recipe is perfect for keeping me full and giving me energy, whilst tasting amazing!

Ingredients

  • 1 whole medium banana
  • 1 generous handful of frozen berries
  • 1 sachet of porridge oats (27g)
  • Unsweetened almond milk

I just threw the ingredients into the cup and blended well for about 30-40 seconds. The amount of almond milk you use is dependent on the consistency you like. I like mine thick so I didn’t go all the way up to the Max Line.

I have put together a rough guideline for the nutritional values:

  • Calories – 250
  • Protein – 5.1g
  • Total fat – 4.7g
  • Saturated fat – 0.6g
  • Carbohydrates – 43g
  • Fibre – 6g

Enjoy…. 🙂

Hoar Cross Hall Spa Weekend

As I turn 21 tomorrow (21st July), my Mum treated me to a gorgeous spa weekend, just like she did for my elder sisters on their 21st’s! Apart from abroad on holidays, I’ve never actually had a spa weekend so this was such a treat and my kind Mum went all out for it! We arrived on Saturday early afternoon and left on Sunday early evening so we had plenty of time to pamper!

I will try almost anything in the name of beautifying and detoxing etc so I was super keen to use the ice old plunge pool and freezing showers which supposedly detox your skin. I wasn’t brave enough at first but I forced myself in and it was actually so refreshing!! There was also body jets, hot and cold sprays/jets/waterfalls, heated stone seats with massaging water jets, hot tubs, sauna, steam room, 2 pools…. Basically everything you could want from water therapy! I love trying all of these things out but my mum isn’t so keen! I love the fact everyone walks around in their bikinis, robes and slippers! It’s so chilled.

I had three amaaaaazing treatments – 2 on the first day and one the next day. The first was the Rose Hydrator which involved an all over body scrub, being covered in luxury oils and creams and wrapped up, finishing with a scalp massage. I left feeling super soft and silky!

My next treatment was the Elemis Facial. This is tailored to your particular skin type and my therapist adjusted the products according to my dry skin. I’ve been suffering with dryness on my forehead and eyelids at the moment and I can honestly say that these were about 70% better after the facial! The products felt and smelt amazing.

My final treatment was a full body Hot Stone Massage. I have always carried quite a lot of tension in my shoulders and tend to have knots there, so it was quite painful having those massaged out but I feel much better for it! I would recommend all of the treatments I had if you guys ever visit the spa.

We spent the rest of the day using the facilities and reading by the pool. I downloaded ‘Looking for Alaska’ by John Green a while ago and started reading but never got chance to properly get into it as I had my exams. I’m now 90% through and I LOVE it. It’s so thought provoking and the story line is brilliantly unpredictable. It was nice just to be able to chill and do nothing except read and relax.

The amount we ate this weekend is kind of rediculous! We had lunch and dinner on the first day, then breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea on the second day. Lunch and dinner are both three course meals! You can imagine how full we were (but we still managed most of it!). The meals were brilliant and thoroughly enjoyed.

As an additional treat, my mum purchased some of the Elemis products used in my facial for me. I chose the Papaya Enzyme Peel, Exotic Moisture Mask and Skin Bliss Capsules. I’m excited to use these products and will be blogging the results! I’m excited equally about them all – the Papaya Enzyme Peel removed the dead skin cells, while the Exotic Moisture Mask hydrates the skin and can even be used as an overnight treatment. The Skin Bliss Capsules (which I used once a while ago and loved) are to be used as a course 3 times a year – the contain 30 days worth of capsules both day and night, with different scents and oils.

On the whole, we were really happy with the weekend. We had a lovely room, comfortable beds, everything was clean and nice and the food and treatments were spot on. However, there are a couple of negatives we both pointed out. The meal time service wasn’t totally up to scratch – absolutely no fault of the staff! The staff were lovely and tried to be attentive but they were totally understaffed so they were rushed off their feet. This meant that we were sat for hours to have a meal and left a number of times without drinks. For our evening meal, we couldn’t get a booking until 8.45pm and weren’t shown to our table until past 9.00pm. We didn’t end up finishing the meal until around 11.30pm! It wasn’t ideal but we still enjoyed it.

The second thing I’d comment on is the treatment times. My Mum and I both checked the times of our treatments and each and every one of them was 10-15 minutes shorter than we had paid for! It’s understandable that they need to set up for the next client, but that time shouldn’t be taken from the treatment times.

I will definitely be booking future visits to Hoar Cross Hall and I now feel perfectly refreshed and ready for the rest of my 21st celebrations.
