Red Carpet Ready – Shooting Beautiful Gowns in a Beautiful Location.

Hey!

So this weekend, I travelled across to Lincoln to shoot for Red Carpet Ready – the largest dress specialist in the country! When I say these dresses are amazing – I don’t mean just cute dresses that you see each day. These dresses are next level! Stunning gowns in every design and colour-way you can imagine. Many are encrusted with beautiful gems and beading and intricate detail.

I arrived around midnight to my hotel after attending an event and got myself showered and settled ready for an early start. I met one of the other models Hayley for a quick breakfast and then we travelled to the location – MY GOODNESS. We certainly didn’t expect the location we arrived at!

The lovely Tina and Simon Grantham (friends of the owner of RCR) had loaned their beautiful home for the day to shoot in. The whole house was exquisite – crushed velvet, white marble, grand chandeliers, beautiful textured walls, stunning flower displays – it was literally the dream home. Not to mention the Bentley and Ferrari on the drive!

Just a taster of the beautiful home.

We created some group shots where we all wore different styles but in the same colour scheme, and we also had some individual shots and were let loose around the house to get some selfies and videos! The purpose of the shoot was to advertise the AMAZING dresses Kirsty has got in for the 2018 prom season – not to mention the gowns for balls, pageants and the cutest NYE cocktail dresses!

There’s so many images coming but I’ll attach a few I got from the day. I did not want to take them off! PS keep scrolling RIGHT down to the bottom to see the highlight of the day that I promise you’ll love!

Okay so as promised – the highlight of the day…..

If you know me, you know I’m a huge dog lover and the Granthams have a GORGEOUS French Bull Dog called Blue! He kept escaping from the garden so the team were constantly running round trying to catch up (turns out he’s allowed out and doesn’t run away haha) but he also stole a load of sausage rolls which made me love him even more!

So on our lunch break… I went missing… they found me crouched down in the kitchen giving him all the love!

Look how much he’s enjoying it!

Missguided 50% off Madness

It’s every fashionistas dream to receive a magic code through your email inbox that entitles you to a massive 50% off online shopping….. Dreamy. (It’s funny how we don’t know we need new clothes until there’s a bargain?)  So what happens when these dreams are crushed by being booted off the website every two seconds due to the hugeeee amount of traffic?

I’m one of (what I can only assume) THOUSANDS of girls that stormed Missguided for some 50% off bargains yesterday upon receiving their email with code NOJOKE. The only problem is, it soon started to become more than a joke. For starters, there was a queue just to get on the website, then when you were on, each click lead to you being booted off again. If that’s not annoying enough, the ‘add to basket’ function broke also, meaning that even if you did manage to stay on the site for more than 2 minutes, it was near impossible to get anything in your basket.

I started at around 9.30am and with constant refreshes and persistence of steel, I managed to get 6 items in my basket (ALMOST everything I wanted) and admitted defeat to go to the checkout. Then I realised that checking out would be the worst part. Long story short, I got booted off another several thousand times and with ruthless persistence and copious amounts of refreshing the page, my order was complete.

Upon searching Missguided on Twitter, it seemed I was pretty much one of the only ones to achieve this, give or take like 2 others (Not smug, promise). Missguided had put out a few tweets stating their website was down and they’d be back up and running in no time.

So the question is, why did Missguided put this mega offer on, if they were never going to be able to cope with the demand? Their website was down pretty much within minutes of sending the email out. So, was this a clever PR stunt or simply an oversight from their tech team? Either way, it certainly got them some massive attention and I doubt their competitors made many sales yesterday when everyone knew the bargains waiting for them on Missguided. However, how many sales did they miss out on in those hours where no one could get on? How many people gave up and admitted defeat?

I’d have loved to have seen the chaos in the offices that day. That being said, I recieved my next day delivery as promised which I was not expecting! And everything is perfect. Winnerrrrrr. As annoying as the issue was, I still love you Missguided.

Anyway, here’s what I picked up… I wanted some casual day time clothes so I’m happy with these!

Were you affected by the Missguided drama? Did you manage to fulfil your order? Let me know in the comments!

Ann Summers: Willa Bra

Ann Summers ‘Willa’, MAC Lipstick in ‘Chilli’ (scroll for more images)

I’m a sucker for buying cute underwear. I have drawers and drawers full of every variety and colour.
One of my favourite stores at the moment is Ann Summers. I always used to think it was full of OTT numbers that don’t suit my style at all, but I’ve realised in the last few months that they actually have some really sweet designs that are girly and pretty. One of these is the Willa that I picked up in Red this week (it also comes in black). I really wish they did a white or cream version of this because I think it would be gorgeous!

Sometimes, thick winter jumpers and coats can leave you feeling a little frumpy so I love wearing delicate bra’s underneath my huge chunky knitted jumpers. Even though it’s only you that knows it’s there, I kinda like that.

One of the things about the Willa bra is that it’s almost a fashion piece rather than a bra, similar to the Ayra bra I picked up from A.S not long ago. I wore the Ayra with a black top so the lace neck-tie was visible and got so many compliments (you can find the images on my Instagram @heliemac1). I feel you could style the Willa as part of an outfit also, it would be amazing on holiday with a good tan.

   Lace detail.
Styled with a white wrap-around skirt.
Perfect teamed with a chunky knit and a matching red lip.

Miss Scuba UK: Red Carpet Ready Photoshoot

Today, I’ve taken a road trip down to Lincoln for a very glamorous Photoshoot. In August I will be taking part in the annual Miss Scuba UK pageant. It’s way more than your standard beauty pageant – the main focus of the competition is marine conservation and taking care of our beaches and sea life. On the night, we will find out the top 5 in no order, who then go to Cyprus AND Egypt to scuba dive and for a girly holiday! The ultimate winner will then be decided and will head out to Malaysia for the Miss Scuba International pageant! This is an amazing opportunity and I’m so privileged to be part of it.

The shoot was at Red Carpet Ready – an amazing dress shop that’s stocks a wide array of beautiful designer gowns and dresses. When I say amazing – I mean you just would not believe it! It’s set in beautiful grounds and has three separate sections, each full of the latest designs. There’s something for everyone.

These are just a few snaps of what’s on offer at Red Carpet Ready!

A group image of some of the finalists. Can you spot me?

This is the stunning Pia Michi gown I wore for the shoot – it’s understated but still glam due to the intricate sparkles and unique back. This particular gown is slightly too big on me, but you can imagine the amazing silhouette that this dress can create.

We had a few group shots in different locations on the grounds. The sun was out in full force and my sensitive eyes were watering all over the place so I hope my images don’t come out all squinty! It was a great giggle though. I can’t wait to see the images when they’re released – keep an eye out on Instagram!

You can purchase these gowns and many, many more at Red Carpet Ready or visit the store if you’re ever in the Lincoln area. They’ve just had a new showroom fitted with crisp white walls and marble floors with stunning big mirrors – perfect for a few selfies!

Big thank you’s go out to Jaime-Lee, Jill and Sue (and the rest of the team) at Miss Scuba UK, Kirsty and the ladies at Red Carpet Ready, Tom Parnell – the brilliant photographer for the day, all of the girlies and of course my Mum for driving the long journey for me!

My casting look.

I’m often asked by new or aspiring models, what look they should have when going to castings of Go&See’s.

I think the issues I see most often is over-done hair, too much makeup and over the top clothing that doesn’t show off your figure. The general idea is to appear groomed but natural – the client doesn’t want to see the finished product, they want to see what they can do with you to represent their brand the way they want it. They want to see the raw product, but in its best form.

I try to achieve a glowing, dewy look with my skin and I personally believe that this is achieved through the prep rather than just the makeup. I always see girls with foundation that looks almost crusty on their skin, probably because they don’t moisturise or prime properly. It’s a misconception that you shouldn’t moisturise if you have oily skin when in reality, you’d be much better off finding a good oil free moisturiser, such as Dermologica.

These pics show my skin after applying all of the products to my skin, but before the finishing touches.

  • I started by applying a serum and moisturiser by Estée Lauder from the Enlighten range.
  • I continued by applying a thin layer of Clarins Beauty Flash Balm.  I always think my skin looks so radiant and hydrated when I use this.
  • I immediately applied Estée Lauder Double Wear Light in intensity 2 using the Real Techniques buffing brush. It has an amazing coverage but is still light enough to look natural when applied smoothly.
  • I dabbed some E.L Double Wear Concealer in 1W Light (Warm)  around my eye area.
  • I lightly slicked some Soleil Tan De Chanel on my cheek bones and sides of my forehead, and a quick buff over my whole face using the contour brush by Real Techniques.
  • To finish my look, I slicked a thin flick of liquid eyeliner across the tops of my eyelids to give them some definition.
  • I coated my lashes in Benefit Roller Lash which I loveeeeee.
  • I filled in my brows using the Beauty UK High Brow all in one Brow Definition Kit.
  • I used MAC Spice Liner and some Carmex lip balm on my lips.
  • I left my hair natural except straightening out the front a little so I looked neat.

  • I kept my outfit simple with a black cropped top and skinny jeans but added a gold body chain to make me stand out a little. I was once told that details like this are good to make you be remembered over the other models without trying too hard to draw attention to yourself.
  • I added my MK watch and bag and my favourite tan Kurt Gieger heels.

Once I was walking through Manchester in the 23• heat I regretted my jeans! A couple of the other models were wearing simple dresses and I think it’s time for me to transition into dresses this week onwards!

So to summarise, think neat and groomed but not over done. I wouldn’t recommend wearing your fav sequin dress and sparkly heels but at the same time, it’s probably not a good idea to turn up to a casting in your old joggers and trainers. Keep it casual in jeans and vest tops in neautral colours or a fitted dress to show off your figure.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments!

Rosie for Autograph

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will forever be one of my all-time favourite supermodels. She is such a natural beauty and oozes elegance and femininity.

“The concept behind my new collection is luxurious, feminine smoothing lingerie. These pieces are are using the softest microfibres, they’re ultra smooth and slinky, with French designed lace and silk trims to add a touch of luxury. The clever multiway straps on each bra means you can wear them with many different outfits. Create a perfectly smooth silhouette.” Rosie.

I was browsing M&S yesterday when my friend and I noticed the Rosie for Autograph collection, with its delicate silks and lace and subtle dusky tones mixed with beautiful florals. I picked up three bra’s which you won’t believe we’re just £3.99 each reduced from £25! Here’s the ones I chose:

I love this delicate silk and lace non-padded balcony. It remains feminine and pretty, despite the glam black lace trim.

This dusky pink garment is the same as the one above, but in a girly soft pink which makes it all the more girly and pretty.

The final bra I picked up was this duck egg blue plunge with a subtle white print and Rosie’s signature lace.

The collection seems to be a small fit with the ones I’ve tried, so take a few sizes into the changing rooms and see what fits best. Rosie wasn’t wrong when she said these are very smoothing and slinky. They’re by no means push-up but they drape over your skin beautifully and feel so feminine. I’d definitely recommend running down to your local M&S store to see if you can grab any bargains, but I’d be equally as happy personally to purchase at full price.

On a final note – Rosie retweeted me! ❤

Graduation Ball: Fashion and Makeup.

Hey everyone! On Friday I OFFICIALLY finished university for good! It’s been three long, hard years but I’ve finally completed my BA (Hons) Events Management degree so I can properly get into this blogging business and finally work full time as a model!

Last night was the graduation ball for the Hollings Facilty of MMU so there was people from a few different courses, all coming together for a brilliant event! (As assumed when we’re events students!). It was held at The Hilton in Deansgate, Manchester. I LOVE this hotel, I spent New Year’s Eve there not long ago and go for afternoon tea in Cloud23 which is up on the 23rd floor where you can sit and see out over Manchester whilst you sip champagne.

I decided to have my makeup done at the Chanel counter for a change, which was especially appealing as they were doing it for £10 instead of £45 for a limited time, then of course you receive this back off any purchase. (I will review my purchase in a separate post!)

I like quite a natural, warm look so I had a nice fresh skin base, with some bronze contouring and a dab of blush. I had a light bronze smokey eye and delicate liquid eyeliner on the top. The look was finished with a nude lip, lightly defined brow and a slick of black mascara. (I should just point out I’m not naked on this picture, as you’ll see from my next pictures!).

I really struggled to find a dress that I fell in love with, then I stumbled across one when I was just browsing Google…. The ‘Oman’ from Celebrity Boutique was just The One as soon as I saw it. It comes with a bit of a price tag – coming in at £119 but the quality is just superb.

My dress arrived beautifully packaged in a pink box tied with black elastic. Inside, white tissue was delicately folded around the garment and I just couldn’t wait to open it up!

It fit absoloutly beautifully (I got a size XS) and I could feel it sculpting my figure in particular places like around my waist. The fabric is thick and shiny and the dress it’s self was heavy, which to me is an indicator of quality with bodycon styles like this. It also has a thin rubber lining around the top which reacts with your skin texture to stop the dress from slipping.

I teamed my CB dress with my favourite nude Rhianna River Island heels and a nude clutch and kept my jewellery simple with a white Olivia Burton watch, gold Swarovski ring and Carat London gold bracelet. My hair was simple and slicked back to show off my makeup.

You can purchase this dress from House of CB  and I would say, it’s worth every penny!

The hospitality at The Hilton was wonderful as ever, and I had a great time celebrating with my friends and course mates, with the wine and prosseco flowing ! Congratulations to MMU Events Management Graduates.

A few snaps from the night!

Trend Alert: Metallic Tattoos

Pinterest and Instagram are blowing up with images of bronzed skin, delicately decorated with metallic designs. A quick search will reveal the sparkling temporary tattoos sloping down backs, wrapping around wrists and embellishing hands amongst other designs.

I thought I’d try and bring a bit of brightness to sunny old England and ordered myself a pack of about 10 different designs. I just searched ‘metallic tattoos’ on eBay and voila, a wide range of gold and silver tattoos popped up, accented with elements of black. I chose my designs and ordered and I wasn’t disappointed when they arrived!

I thought it best to ween myself into the trend by simply creating a bracelet effect, and I must say I really liked the way they turned out! When I’m next on a sunny beach (hopefully soon!) I’ll probably be a bit more daring and run one down my spine and around the tops of my arms.

I guess I couldn’t expect amazing quality from an item that only cost £2.99 from eBay but I was quite disappointed by how long they stayed on. I took a shower after a couple of hours of putting the tattoos on, and half had come off by the end of the shower – without me actually even touching them.  I wrapped a black design around my boyfriends arm (after some mild persuasion) also, and when we woke up this morning he told me it had come off in his sleep. I thought he’d secretly scratched it off until I looked at my own wrist and realised mine was entirely off also!? This was despite the claim of the ‘7-day duration’.

So with this information, I’d probably say these are best for a one night affair, possibly with a backless dress. Alternatively a day on the beach or a festival! I’ll be on a hunt for some with a little more stay power now.

My top inspiration for the trend

Missguided delivery!

I’m quite late to post tonight since I’ve been really busy studying for my final exams. Two weeks tomorrow and I will be freeeeee! I can then concentrate on my modelling and get myself prepared for Miss Scuba UK.

Tonight I went out with my family for my nephews 8th birthday so I wanted something really casual but still quite pretty. Thankfully my Missguided order arrived today so I stuck on a new top and my trusty Zara jeans with a pair of pointed courts.

Skinny Jeans: Zara

Top: Missguided.

I have wanted a top like this for ages so jumped at the chance when I saw this on Missguided with 25% student discount! I fell in love with the wrap detail and the long draping back.

I love anything in this sort of nude/pinky shade. The long sleeves are great for this time of year when it’s too warm to wear a coat, and too cold not to.

I finished the look with a delicate opal pendent, gold Michael Kors watch, natural makeup and bouncy curls.

I’m so looking forward to finishing my degree now, I’m definitely going to reward myself with some retail therapy. Can anyone recommend some sweet online boutiques?

One more day until the weekend…..

Heel Envy.

They’re every woman’s best friend and worst enemy. They have us wobbling and stumbling like Bambi, but give us the elongated legs of a goddess. We may end a girls night out hobbling to the door from the pain of our 6 inch stillettos but it’s hard to deny how amazing you feel strutting in your favourite pair of heels.

I tend to be drawn to dainty strappy stillettos with a slim heel and they’re always neautral in colour! I find nude, blush and white are so flattering and match pretty much everything in my wardrobe. I tend to steer clear of black, in favour of lighter colours.

I recently stumbled accross a website that made me feel like all of my dreams had come true…. Jessica Buurman has one of the most amazing selections of shoes I think I’ve ever seen in one place. There’s such a huge range with an array of styles to suit every preference. What’s more – they’re offering 10% off to new customers and offer free worldwide delivery! I’m yet to place an order because there’s just too many to choose from… But the reviews are fantastic and the prices so reasonable, therefore I can’t wait!

Here’s a few of my Top Picks from the Jessica Buurman:

A twist on the classic nude courts. I love the cut out detailing on these.

This lace up style is so ‘Kimmy K’ and absolutely on trend this season. Everything is perfect about these from the colour to the cage detail and lace up front.   I adore this whimsical, girly design. They’re not something I’d usually wear but I would sit for hours just lusting after them, so pretty.

These are just ideal for me this season – snake print and lace up are two of my favourite styles   I love this edgy design and the Perspex detail and studded toes make these the perfect stand-out heel. Plus, who can say no to a red sole…. These are possibly my favourites as they give a nod towards my dream shoes – Louboutin Impera. The shape is the perfect blend of classic and modern, and the laser cut is delicately eye catching.

Christian Louboutin is easily the elite of all up-class shoe purveyors. The elegant curve and classic shapes are enough to make any shoe lover melt – add in a red sole and it’s instant shoe-heaven.

My Top Picks from Christian Louboutin:

The eptimome of luxury. These could dazzle from miles away.

These So Kate’s would match any outfit and add a touch of simplistic class.     These tan Pigalles are a wardrobe staple. They’d look so chic with a crisp white shirt and a pair of blue denim skinnies.   I adore the curvaceous silhouette and the sensual red of these scalloped beauties.   The ultimate for endlessly long legs: Lady Peep Patent.

The high street has some beautiful heels on offer that give everyone a chance to flaunt the designer look, on a high street budget.

My Top Pics from the high street:

Caged heels are one of my favourite designs this season and I love the gold detail on these River Island beauties.

I can’t decided which colour I like best! I love the sexy snake effect on these ones.   Zara never fails to amaze with their chic designs. I’m so glad fringe is back in – I had some sandals just like these when I was younger so this pair is so nostalgic to me.   Zara here gives us some thick strappy sandals that are so ideal for the summer.   I need these in my wardrobe. I wear a lot of white so these electric blue Zara lace ups would brighten up all of my outfits.   These Topshop heels are similar to a few of the others in this post, but I love the Grecian feel of these strappy sandals.   Super cute feather trim chunky strap sandals – thank you Topshop

Finishing off with some funky, mixed colour snake effect courts, again from Topshop – I LOVE.

I’m sure I’ve got you all wanting to go on a super mad shopping spree to stock your wardrobe with all of these designs and the millions of others available out there. The choices really are endless –  I know I could buy shoes each and every day.

Happy shopping!
