Makeup Styling For The Protein Bakery Press Shoot

Hi everyone!

I just sat down with a big mug of tea to update my blog with what I’m up to. I sometimes struggle to sit back and find the time to reflect on my going’s-on and share them but it’s important, especially as I’d love to look back in the future and see how far I’ve progressed.

Today I worked on an exciting project with The Protein Bakery which was organised by Ledigo PR. We had a great team, with @hairbysophie _m on the hair, @jadekaty and @southweather84 on photography and myself creating the makeup look. Then model for the day was the director of The Protein Bakery, Laura Jackson. She thought up the concept in her own kitchen and is now set to sell her products in January 2018, launching in supermarkets and major online companies.

A little bit about the company…

So, how many of you get cravings on a regular basis for cakes, cookies, donuts etc? Especially when you’re on a diet! The Protein Bakery has created a new concept of protein fortified goodies to curb cravings for real (a bog standard protein bar just doesn’t cut it) whilst remaining clean and adding to your daily protein intake. I have sampled the range and I have to say they genuinely taste like your normal baked goods – the Salted Caramel Cookie is unreal! They don’t have that protein after taste that you get with so many protein products.

What I really love about the range is that it appeals to so many people. So many people can feel intimidated by the fitness and protein industry and feel that maybe the usual protein bars and shakes etc we see in stores are aimed at uber-toned, fitness addicts. That’s where The Protein Bakery is different and appeals to EVERYONE whether you’re sculpting your six pack or simply trying to make healthier choices.

Back to the makeup…

We wanted a ‘Nigella’ feel to the look so we kept it all matte and neutrals. I used YSL foundation and brown and nude eyeshadows from Kiko Milano. The brows were filled with light strokes of MAC Spike and brushed with a clear brow gel for a soft, ‘barely done’ look. I didn’t use any contouring or highlighting for this look as I really wanted it to remain fresh and simple, so I simply defined the cheek bones and lifted the skin tone using Dior blusher. The look was finished with some light strip-lashes, Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in Penelope Pink and set with Sport FX setting spray. The final look was girly and soft and perfect for the day time but with that extra glam!

Keep an eye out on The Protein Bakery’s Instagram to be the first to get your hands on the products and the chance to win some competitions they have coming up!

Clean Baking: Banana Avocado Loaf

Hey! I’ve finally finished writing my dissertation for my Events Management degree, so I’ve got much more time to do nice things like bake, work out and blog!

I decided to do a spot of baking before my pilates class today, and wanted to try something simple with ingredients I already have lying around the house. I’m currently training for Miss Scuba UK – a beauty pageant with a difference! The top 5 from the UK competition head to Cyprus to scuba dive and take part in some marine conservation. The winner is then chosen based on the scuba diving, the willingness to try and how well you work as a team….. The winner then travels to MALAYSIA for the Miss Scuba international finals where again, she will dive and participate in marine conservation. So of course, I’m wanting to eat right and train hard to make the most of this oppurtunity!

The ingredients of this loaf make it super moist and filling – it’s great as a quick snack or with a cup of tea!

What you’ll need:

  • 3 ripe bananas mashed
  • 1 ripe avocado mashed
  • 1 egg
  • 250g Wholewheat flour
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 tbsp natural honey or agave nectar
  • 4 tsp natural unrefined sugar
  • Almond milk
  • Cocoa Nibs optional
  • A loaf tin (preferably silicone)

  • Pre-heat your oven to 200•
  • Mix together your avocado and 2 1/2 bananas (set aside the other half).
  • Add the egg, honey, sugar and vanilla essence and mix well.
  • Sift the baking powder and half of the flour to add air into the mixture and avoid any lumps. The consistency should be thick but sticky. Continue to add flour until you get to this firm consistency.
  • Add a dash of almond milk to create a thick but smooth consistency.
  • Pour the mixture into the loaf tin and top with the remaining half banana and a sprinkle of cocoa nibs. (One of mine slipped!)
  • Bake in the oven for around 45 minutes or until a tooth pick inserted comes out clean.
  • Pop out of the tin onto a cooling rack and leave to cool before slicing.

I’d love to hear if anyone tries this recipe or if you have any of your own clean baking recipes in the comments!

Graze Box review.

It’s back to the healthy eating now, ready for bikini weather! One of the main struggles people find when dieting is healthy snacks – it’s easy to get bored of snacking on fruit after a while!

My favourite website for healthy snacking has to be Graze – they’re so imaginative with their snack ideas so you’ll never ever get bored.

I’ve been ordering graze boxes in, on and off, for a year or two now, and I’ve never been disappointed. They’re always adding new choices in and every single one I’ve tried so far has been amazing. In your box, you receive 4 punnets of healthy treats to ‘graze’ on throughout the week. There’s amazing ‘little puds’ and small cakes with tea bags for an afternoon treat. Along side this there’s an amazing selection of nuts and dried fruit and other imaginative concoctions.

I recently started my boxes up again and this week received Cocoa and Vanilla Protein Flapjack, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Texan Corn Salsa and Cherries and Berries. My favourite is definitely the sticky toffee pudding, it’s hard to believe it only contains 1g saturated fat and just 138kcal considering it feels like such an indulgent treat.

It’s always exciting receiving a surprise to open in the post each week/fortnight as well! The best part is that you can scan through the available options and Bin/Try/Like/Love according to your personal preferences, and even select ‘send soon’ on certain snacks so you can have a box tailor made to your taste

If you want to give healthy snacking a try, use code HELM75RXB for a TOTALLY FREE box. You will have to input your card details, however should you wish not to continue with your boxes after you’ve received your free one, you’re entitled to cancel at no cost!

Happy Grazing xoxo

Valentines Baking <3

Since it’s Valentines Day tomorrow, I thought I better do a themed post! Whether valentines has slipped your mind, you want a cheap but sweet gift idea or you want to get creative for your loved one, I’m sure you’ll love the ideas I’ve found below!

We’ll start off easy…..

Strawberry/brownie/marshmallow skewers.
These cute and simple skewers would make a perfect dessert! Pop a strawberry, ready made chocolate brownie and a marshmallow on a skewer and drizzle in chocolate – simple but effective!

White Chocolate Heart Moulds
These are so simple but look really cute and thoughtful. All you have to do is melt some white chocolate and pour it into heart shaped ice cube moulds, sprinkle on some pink and red sweets and voilà! Once they’re cooled, pop them out of the moulds and you’re left with these romantic treats.

Iced Heart Biscuits.
These can be as simple or as intricate as you choose…. Pop to the supermarket for some plain biscuits and get yourself an icing kit, or do it the good old fashioned way and bake them yourself! You could try this recipe if you’re up for a challenge.

Heart Tarts.
Another really cute idea is these little heart shaped jam tarts. Simply roll out some ready made pastry, cut into hearts, add a tiny bit of strawberry jam, place together and bake!

My personal favourites! There’s so much you can do with brownies – white chocolate, milk chocolate, peanut butter, Nutella, Oreo, basically any sweet treat your loved one likes can be added! A really great valentines idea is red velvet brownies… I’ve never tried them myself but I’m sure you’ll agree they look amazing. If you’re feeling really brave and creative why not give this recipe a go today. Right now, I’ve got a batch of my boyfriends favourite chocolate fudge brownies cooling, which I’m topping with Nutella and Love Heart sweets!

So if you need a last minute gift that’s personal and super sweet, head to the super market and get baking!

Share in the comments if you bake anything for your loved one this valentines x
