NYX goodies

I am absolutely obsessed with trying new cosmetic products. I do tend to go on recommendations from friends/bloggers/reviewers before I splurge the cash however. I hadn’t experienced NYX products until I attended the Pout Patrol Makeup Masterclass before Christmas and received two amazing lipsticks in my goodie bag. Although the shades of lipstick aren’t really that useable for me (dark brown and bright purple) the pigment and feel are impressive and you never know when you’ll need them in your kit.

I had my eye on a few goodies but couldn’t find them all online in one place (plus, who likes paying for delivery!?) so I searched boots online to see where I can get the products and found them in Festival Park Boots, about half an hour away from where I live. There’s tones of shops around here so I didn’t mind the journey! I’m so happy NYX is available in Selfidges at the Trafford centre as I go quite frequently! I love each and every one of the products I picked up from NYX this time so will DEFINITELY stock up on a few more products every time I’m in the area!

First up is Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator in shade Pure Gold. My bestie Amy turned up to meet me the other day and looked radiant! I instantly said WHAT HAVE YOU GOT ON YOUR SKIN and she told me about this product she picked up in Selfridges. It can be used a few different ways – mixed with Foundation, applied prior to foundation or used on the high points of the face as highlighter. I personally like to mix with Foundation. It gives a really glowy, dewy look. I don’t think it’s quite pigmented enough to get a good highlight on the cheekbones alone.

Next up,  the Slide On Eye Pencil in black and in white. My two classic favourites for the water line to complete any look! These are really pigmented and long lasting. I find with black and white they can be quite wishy washy but I really like these!

The Above and Beyond Full Coverage Concealer in porcelain is probably my favourite of my purchases! It’s perfect for carving out brows with a flat edged brush and also for priming the eyelids prior to eyeshadow application for a more intense colour. I’ve bought one for myself and one for my kit (same with the highlighter fluid!) and day to day I use it on my lids, set with Kiko Smart Eyeshadow in no.10 with a little bronzer in the crease. It really brightens up the eyes! It’s super creamy as well so it doesn’t cause a dry or creasy look underneath the eyes. I really recommend this one!

Finally, the Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cairo. I saw this on insta babe @elle.sutton and it looked beaut so I had to purchase! I use it alone with MAC spice Liner, or add a gloss over the top for a perfect nude lip. There’s tones of lovely shades which I’m going to stock up on for my kit and for personal use!

Jane Iredale Glow Time Full-Coverage BB Cream Review.

I’ve recently been sent the Jane Iredale BB Cream to test and review, and have used it for the past few weeks to reveal the most honest and clear review of how I found the product. (All opinions are my own, this is an honest review of the product).

I apply the BB cream first with my MAC foundation brush, then I continue to blend it with the Real Techniques beauty blender. My first thought when I started to apply was HOW AMAZING the coverage is for a BB cream. I’d compare this with MAC studio fix for coverage. The BB creams I usually use have quite a light coverage and aren’t really suitable for me on a daily basis. This however really does have a truly heavy coverage whilst still feeling light on the skin.

At first, I wasn’t sure the shade was right for me (BB6) as it seemed quite yellow but as it blended in, I realised it was ideal for me and totally brightened up my complexion. I always go for yellow tones on my skin rather than pinks/beige.

I have reasonably dry skin so a lot of foundations are a no-no for me because they can create dry lines and visible pores. That’s why I’m so happy to have found a hydrating mineral BB cream that allows me to wear a full-coverage look without the negative side effects!

To put this BB cream to the test, I’ve worn it for a few different daily activities to see how it fairs.

1: A Day At Work – as you may know, I’m a full-time model so when I’m working I don’t tend to wear my own makeup. However, I do occasionally cover at my parents business which is a children’s day-nursery. I wore this BB cream for the full day to see how it stayed on for a 9-6 shift. The coverage stayed neat, however it had gotten a little patchy on my nose by lunch time and my T-Zone was a little oily. I think this is because it’s so hydrating so I don’t really mind because it’s sort of one or the other for me. I’d rather a quick dab with my beauty blender than the dryness.

2: A Work-Out – yep, I’m one of those girls who likes a bit of natural makeup on in the gym. I’m not talking eyeliner and contour etc, just a dab of BB Cream and a slick of mascara. And nope, it doesn’t make me work any less harder and nope it (generally) doesn’t end up a patchy mess on my face (have you never heard of setting spray?). So, I’ve been wearing the BB cream for the gym and even after a sweaty, intense workout with my trainer, my face stays pretty much perfect still. 10/10 for a workout foundation because it’s mineral based and won’t clog your pores like a normal foundation!

3: In The Pool and Sauna – okay this one was more for the blog post, but I did keep it on for a relax in the pool and sauna post-workout. Obviously my face gets wet in this process so it was interesting to come out of the pool and see that although the coverage had massively decreased, it was all even and my face wasn’t patchy at all!

4: On Holiday – I never use regular Suncream on my face on holiday because it just clogs it up so much. Plus I avoid sun on my face so it always ends up much more pale than my body so I like a light coverage with an SPF. I used this BB cream in Marbella (where everyone is glam so makeup is a must during the day!) and with its SPF 25, it did the job perfectly.

So, all in all it has been a fantastic product, one that I’ve recommended to all of my friends who’ve gone out and bought it and love it as much as I do! It’s definitely my go-to product now and it’s a total staple in my makeup bag. I was also sent their blusher and lip balm which I use all the time also. The 3 together just create the most lovely, soft makeup look with the delicate pinks and gorgeous textures.

Let me know how you get on! Hels X

Mini Drugstore Makeup Haul

I will be the first to admit, I can be a bit of a makeup snob! I’m absolutely aware that there’s some amazing dupes, but I don’t get the same buzz from a Superdrug or Boots bag, that I do a Selfridges or Chanel one (don’t try and lie and say you do). That being said, I do like to dabble with some high street/drugstore brands for those non-necessity items or ones that I won’t be using on a daily basis. We all love a bargain.

I took a wander into town today and stopped by the 3 for 2 offer in Superdrug. There was a couple of basic things I needed but as always, I spent ages browsing allllll of the makeup. I’m always drawn to the MUA stand, they seem to always be up to date with the latest beauty hypes and they’re popping up on blogs all over the place. Not to mention it’s incredibly cheap!

I decided to try out their radiance under eye concealer as soon as I’ve bought it home. It doesn’t leave fine line creases like a lot of concealers I’ve tried which is good, however I hadn’t realised there’s a light shimmer to it. So I will see how I get on with it properly over the next few days! I’m not too worried at just £2.99. Also from MUA, an eyeshadow called ‘Golden’. I’m always a fan of warm colours on the face with golds and bronzes being my favourite so I thought I may as well test it out for the this summer at only £1!

I needed a clear mascara for my brows after being constantly told by my brow queen Ella that I need to push them up with it each day. I’m on a quest for absolute super model brows, so I’ve been brushing them up constantly but this will just help them stay in place a little longer. Since the quality wasn’t really important for this, I just went for the £2.99 Miss Sporty clear mascara.

Next up, Maybelline New York – Master Ink in satin. This is a black liquid eyeliner. There was the choice between Matte and Satin and I had no clue if I’m honest but I went for Satin anyway which came in at £4.99. Also from Maybelline, the Baby Lips Dr Rescue in Coral Crave. I like to pop on some lip balm whilst I do my makeup in the morning and throughout the day, there’s nothing worse than flakey lips! I’ve had a Baby Lips already but it was a little too pink, this is pretty much clear and has a light tingling sensation!

Finally, the Real Techniques – Miracle Complexion Sponge. I’ve wanted one for a while but actually been using some I got from Primark which I do love! It’ll be interesting to test the two against each other. I will do this in another blog post to test whether price really does mean quality!

Today I had a lovely delivery of the Real Techniques Bold Metals which I’ve wanted for ages! A powder brush, blush brush and eye brush which also will be making an appearance on the blog, since they’re too pretty to miss!

What are your favourite drug store products or what high-end products could you simply not substitute?
