HD Brows Review

I generally have 2 styles of eyebrows that I flick between. I either have overly-threaded brows by a lady in a little kiosk who nods at my ‘don’t do them thin’ yes goes on to thread to within an inch of life. Or there’s my ‘I’m growing them out’ phases which really means I’ve just not been in ages to get them done.

Neither style is ideal but after a bit of pencilling them in, they’ll do just fine. I dream of growing big fashiony brows like Cara Delevigne, but you have to work with what you’ve got!

One of my dear friends Ella is a HD Brow specialist with probably the best brows you’ll ever see (@EllaRavenscroft) and she persuaded me to let her loose on my own brows. At this point they’re in a mid-stage where they’ve not been threaded in a few weeks but they’re not wildly over-grown.

  Ella’s beautiful brows.
So, in the consultation phase, I discussed with Ella that I don’t want them dark, I like them as thick as possible and a good arch. She explained that whoever had been threading my brows had been absolutely butchering them and even trimmed them unevenly. I know brows are supposed to be ‘sisters, not twins’ but you want some sort of identification that they’re actually related.

Ella tinted, waxed, threaded and plucked my brows, leaving me nervous that there would be nothing left and telling her I’ll kill her if they’re really thin.

I couldn’t beleive my eyes when I looked in the mirror and my brows were somehow THICKER than before all the threading and waxing? Ella is a brow genius. They also look natural and not too dark but tidy and groomed.

I am officially converted.

To finish up, Ella told me I need to push up my right brow with Vaseline each day and in 12 weeks my rows will be more even, since my left one already grows upwards. I’ll track my progress on here! I’m looking forward to creating brows to rival Ella’s after a few more treatments! Contact her now if you want to transform your face too. @HDbrowsbyella

It’s been a glam few days for me, having my nails, brows and hair done so I’m feeling gooooood. What beauty treatments can you not go without?

Eyebrows for blondes.

If like me, you blondies don’t like the over-done, super-dark brow look, then you will love this product.

I purchased it on a whim when trying out a few brow products and I actually love it! I find that most pallets and pencil leave my eyebrows overly dark or if they’re for blondes, slightly ginger!

This eyebrow pencil is ONE POUND. £1. 100p. Yep! It has a lovely golden tone to it that’s dark enough to highlight the brow shape, without over doing it. It also comes with a bristle brush at the other end to blend your inner edges and brush your brows into place.

The only negative I have about it is how soft it is. I find I have to sharpen after every 1/2 uses so it doesn’t last that long. But at £1 who cares?

So leg it down to your nearest superdrug and stock up!

Estée Lauder New Dimension review

Estée Lauder are always updating their current products and introducing new ranges to keep our skin looking and feeling smooth. It’s been a long time favourite brand of mine for skincare. The newest range is ‘New Dimension’ which involves a serum, contour kit and eye contour kit and expert liquid tape. The products are designed to contour the face and give a more sculpted, firm look.

I always take care of my skin (mainly Estée Lauder products) so wasn’t exactly banging on selfridges door trying to grab this product, but when I was walking through, I spoke with my regular EL consultant and she handed me a sample of the new serum (she knows I love to try new products and tend to purchase them!). She told me that the product has exfoliating properties and exposed the fresh layers of skin, therefore not to use for a week before holiday sun exposure. I’m heading out to Egypt in a week for more diving, so I’ve only been able to use the product for a couple of days but already I LOVE IT. I can’t wait to start using it again!

The website states that the serum transforms the skin, leaving it plumped, smooth and more refined – with a good majority of those who tested agreeing. It can be used day and night, and I’ve used it for 2 days and 2 nights. Already, my skin is feeling silky and fresh and looks radiant even without makeup. I would go as far as to say it’s a ‘must-have’ product. I currently use the Enlighten and Night Repair serums but after sampling this, I will be swapping over!

At £62 for 30ml or £88 for 50ml – it’s pricey. But if your skin is a priority then go for it. I’d say it’s great for any skin type whether you’re dry or oily. For dry skin, it will hydrate and remove dead skin cells. For oily skin, it will leave it feeling refreshed and smooth. Obviously speak with your local EL consultant whether it’s right for you, but I do love it!

I’m yet to try the rest of the range but I have a particular interest in the expert liquid tape. It’s used before any other skincare products, on clean skin and does pretty much the same as the serum with tightening and encouraging collegen in the skin to promote a firm, contoured look. Go into your local counter and they’re always more than happy to try the products out on you and give you samples so you can be sure you love your products before you splash out!

Happy shopping X

My casting look.

I’m often asked by new or aspiring models, what look they should have when going to castings of Go&See’s.

I think the issues I see most often is over-done hair, too much makeup and over the top clothing that doesn’t show off your figure. The general idea is to appear groomed but natural – the client doesn’t want to see the finished product, they want to see what they can do with you to represent their brand the way they want it. They want to see the raw product, but in its best form.

I try to achieve a glowing, dewy look with my skin and I personally believe that this is achieved through the prep rather than just the makeup. I always see girls with foundation that looks almost crusty on their skin, probably because they don’t moisturise or prime properly. It’s a misconception that you shouldn’t moisturise if you have oily skin when in reality, you’d be much better off finding a good oil free moisturiser, such as Dermologica.

These pics show my skin after applying all of the products to my skin, but before the finishing touches.

  • I started by applying a serum and moisturiser by Estée Lauder from the Enlighten range.
  • I continued by applying a thin layer of Clarins Beauty Flash Balm.  I always think my skin looks so radiant and hydrated when I use this.
  • I immediately applied Estée Lauder Double Wear Light in intensity 2 using the Real Techniques buffing brush. It has an amazing coverage but is still light enough to look natural when applied smoothly.
  • I dabbed some E.L Double Wear Concealer in 1W Light (Warm)  around my eye area.
  • I lightly slicked some Soleil Tan De Chanel on my cheek bones and sides of my forehead, and a quick buff over my whole face using the contour brush by Real Techniques.
  • To finish my look, I slicked a thin flick of liquid eyeliner across the tops of my eyelids to give them some definition.
  • I coated my lashes in Benefit Roller Lash which I loveeeeee.
  • I filled in my brows using the Beauty UK High Brow all in one Brow Definition Kit.
  • I used MAC Spice Liner and some Carmex lip balm on my lips.
  • I left my hair natural except straightening out the front a little so I looked neat.

  • I kept my outfit simple with a black cropped top and skinny jeans but added a gold body chain to make me stand out a little. I was once told that details like this are good to make you be remembered over the other models without trying too hard to draw attention to yourself.
  • I added my MK watch and bag and my favourite tan Kurt Gieger heels.

Once I was walking through Manchester in the 23• heat I regretted my jeans! A couple of the other models were wearing simple dresses and I think it’s time for me to transition into dresses this week onwards!

So to summarise, think neat and groomed but not over done. I wouldn’t recommend wearing your fav sequin dress and sparkly heels but at the same time, it’s probably not a good idea to turn up to a casting in your old joggers and trainers. Keep it casual in jeans and vest tops in neautral colours or a fitted dress to show off your figure.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments!

MAC lips.

Good morning lovelies! I’m shopping this weekend so I’ve been browsing blogs and online for what treats I should buy. I’m a massive lipstick fan and always more than happy to add to my collection that’s almost exclusively MAC. They’ve always been my favourite – relatively inexpensive, amazing range of colours, good range of textures (matte/glossy etc). I always tend to go for really similar ones. I have so many light pinky shades and a whole load of nudes and only one bold red.

On a recent Selfridges trip, I was browsing the current MAC is Beauty collection and fell in love with pretty much the whole lipstick collection. I swatched a few on my hand and noticed they are much more glossy than the regular MAC lipsticks, but still have a really full colour. This is so ideal for me because I can sometimes get quite dry lips from some of my lipsticks but I love a really full coverage of colour. Long story short – I couldn’t choose which I liked best so I didn’t get any! But I will definitely be purchasing this weekend since I’ve narrowed it down to two now!

You can see why I want them all! Notice Me perhaps isn’t as wearable for me as the others but it’s still undeniably pretty. I’ve narrowed my choices down to Real Redhead and Highlights because my all time fav MAC lipstick is Freckle Tone and I feel like these mixed would be quite similar to this. Honestly though, the more I look at this, the more I want French Twist and Pure Vanity too…. Did it mention it’s my birthday coming up…..?
I stumbled across another thing that excited me recently…. Yep – more lipsticks!

This new MAC collection is rumoured to launch July 9th and I think it’s just genius. I store my lipsticks in a clear Perspex lipstick organiser and since they all look exactly the same, I have the effort of looking at the bottom of each one to find which I want. With these little babies, the outside is exactly the same as the outside so you can just grab the one you want and head out! They are matte which doesn’t sit well on a lot of people’s lips (mine included) but I’m hoping a bit of Vaseline can sort this out because I loveeeee all of them.
Let me know your favourite lipsticks and any other brands you can recommend! Do you have any of these lipsticks?

Expectation VS Reality: Nail Fails.

Day two of a sickness bug has left me scrolling the internet bored, looking for mindless randomness to entertain me. I was supposed to be at my agency today getting some fresh Polaroids which would have been ideal in this weather! Not good.

However, I did stumble upon something that made me laugh. Partly because they’re so awful but partly because I know for a FACT we’ve all been there – done that.

The article, as found on Daily Mail shows us some shocking nail fails where amateurs have tried to replicate professional manicures and got it terribly, terribly wrong.

Enjoy!!

‘Simple stripes’ – they look so easy, but this Fail says differently!     How did this person get the polish so lumpy and uneven? Perhaps some longer nails would have helped!     In fairness, these aren’t the worst fail we’ve seen, but by no means are they good!     Nice attempt but these jagged lines are awful!     Someone pass this girl an acetone dipped cotton bud!     I think you need really deep nail beds or a good extension to pull these off!    Potentially the worst ones yet! What were they thinking?

Hippie tie-die gone very very wrong here! I can only assume she tried to dip her nails into it but something went miserably wrong here!

Have you had any similar experiences? I’ve always preferred a block colour to nail art, but I think if you’re into these sort of looks – leave it to the professionals or invest in some stickers!

Argan Oil Review.

I have a bit of an obsession with dewy, flowing faces, smooth and soft skin, and glossy, silky hair…. Basically all things ‘hydration’!! With this in mind, I always jump at anything that claims to offer a good shot of hydration.

I think it’s safe to say that most of us associate quality with price… High price – high quality. Low price – low quality. Right? Wrong.

My aunty was recently telling my mum all about these new hair products she had tried and loved! They’re basically a range of Argan Oil hair products which sounds all very normal and well with the world going Argan Oil mad at the moment.. But there’s a catch.

These products are from POUND LAND! Yep, pound land. A pound each. 100 pence. They can’t be any good, surely? Wrong again. I’ve started using this range out of curiousity and I’ve been pleasantly surprised. When it comes to my hair, I usually splash out a little and use Bed Head or Wella products because I assume they’re better for my bleached hair.

Here’s a few products that I’ve purchased (note that there is a few more that I’m yet to try in this range!)

Shampoo, conditioner, treatment mask and heat defence leave in spray.

The shampoo and conditioner do feel a little runny but it’s not a problem once the product actually hits your hair. The shampoo still lathers up and the conditioner still coats the hair nicely.

The mask is creamy and oily in a nice way. After soaking my hair in this for a while whilst I was in the bath, my hair was left luscious and silky and with a healthy gloss.

This leave in spray is the perfect finish before blow drying and styling your hair. It’s always a good idea to defend your hair from the every day styling heat and a little extra moisture to get you through the day is only a good thing.

All in all, I’d give these products an 7/10. They have brilliant hydrating properties and have left my bleached hair feeling lovely. They’re also amazing considering the rediculously low price! They also small fantastic.  The only down side is the runnyness which takes away a certain hint of luxury and means you have to use more product than normal. I would definitely recommend getting down to your local pound shop/pound land/ b&m etc and picking some of this up!

Soleil Tan De Chanel – Bronzing Makeup Base REVIEW.

The weather is (kind of) starting to get a little better in the UK now we’re well into May, so I think it’s nice to add some warmth into makeup looks to give a bronzed effect.

In my last post, I mentioned how I had my makeup done at Chanel for my grad ball. The cost of the makeover is redeemable on purchases so I kept a close eye on what the MUA used, so I could decide which item I fancied taking home.

I had heard of Soleil Tan De Chanel before and it did intruige me as its a creamy texture, so I was glad when she took it out to use on me. I suffer from quite dry skin if I’m not careful so I have to keep my skin constantly hydrated. Also I love a dewy look rather than matte so powders don’t work too well on my skin. This is a creamy (almost mousse) texture which is quite luxurious on the skin.

Although this product is cream, it’s applied with a brush. I used Real Techniques contour brush to apply and finished with Real Techniques buffing brush. There’s so many ways you can use this product which makes it so versatile. Firstly, you can add a thin layer to the entire face before foundation for a subtle glow, you can mix with your foundation to go up a shade, use as a contour or bronzer and finally, as a full body tan on top of body lotion.

For this look, I used a light layer before my foundation and finished with gentle contouring on my cheek bones, forehead and nose. I just used it really naturally to begin with but you can build this product up for a more dramatic look.

It feels so soft and dewy on the skin and creates a flawless finish. As I said, it’s so versatile so it’s definitely worth the £32 in my opinion but I’ve heard there’s a dupe by Bourjois so it might be a good option to try that first and see how you get on with a cream before splurging on Chanel.

I should add that I’ve had Soleil Tan De Chanel in the powder form previously and loved it and it lasted for so long! I have high expectations of how long this will last as it’s used so minimally and is a good sized pot.

You can purchase at any Chanel counter or online Here

Other products I used:

Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.

MAC lip liner in Spice.

Dior Addict Gloss in Dolly Pink.

Dreamweave Lash Magnet Mascara.

Natural brows.

If you have/do use this product – please do let me know in the comments and I’d love to hear any recommendations you have!

Graduation Ball: Fashion and Makeup.

Hey everyone! On Friday I OFFICIALLY finished university for good! It’s been three long, hard years but I’ve finally completed my BA (Hons) Events Management degree so I can properly get into this blogging business and finally work full time as a model!

Last night was the graduation ball for the Hollings Facilty of MMU so there was people from a few different courses, all coming together for a brilliant event! (As assumed when we’re events students!). It was held at The Hilton in Deansgate, Manchester. I LOVE this hotel, I spent New Year’s Eve there not long ago and go for afternoon tea in Cloud23 which is up on the 23rd floor where you can sit and see out over Manchester whilst you sip champagne.

I decided to have my makeup done at the Chanel counter for a change, which was especially appealing as they were doing it for £10 instead of £45 for a limited time, then of course you receive this back off any purchase. (I will review my purchase in a separate post!)

I like quite a natural, warm look so I had a nice fresh skin base, with some bronze contouring and a dab of blush. I had a light bronze smokey eye and delicate liquid eyeliner on the top. The look was finished with a nude lip, lightly defined brow and a slick of black mascara. (I should just point out I’m not naked on this picture, as you’ll see from my next pictures!).

I really struggled to find a dress that I fell in love with, then I stumbled across one when I was just browsing Google…. The ‘Oman’ from Celebrity Boutique was just The One as soon as I saw it. It comes with a bit of a price tag – coming in at £119 but the quality is just superb.

My dress arrived beautifully packaged in a pink box tied with black elastic. Inside, white tissue was delicately folded around the garment and I just couldn’t wait to open it up!

It fit absoloutly beautifully (I got a size XS) and I could feel it sculpting my figure in particular places like around my waist. The fabric is thick and shiny and the dress it’s self was heavy, which to me is an indicator of quality with bodycon styles like this. It also has a thin rubber lining around the top which reacts with your skin texture to stop the dress from slipping.

I teamed my CB dress with my favourite nude Rhianna River Island heels and a nude clutch and kept my jewellery simple with a white Olivia Burton watch, gold Swarovski ring and Carat London gold bracelet. My hair was simple and slicked back to show off my makeup.

You can purchase this dress from House of CB  and I would say, it’s worth every penny!

The hospitality at The Hilton was wonderful as ever, and I had a great time celebrating with my friends and course mates, with the wine and prosseco flowing ! Congratulations to MMU Events Management Graduates.

A few snaps from the night!

Beauty Fad: Coconut Oil Pulling

When it comes to beauty products, treatments and procedures, I will try almost anything once. A huge craze at the moment is ‘oil pulling’ which is the process of swishing a teaspoon of coconut oil around your mouth for 20 minutes at a time.

Oil pulling, also known as “kavala” or “gundusha” is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that supposedly draws out toxins in your body to improve both oral and overall health. The recent trend seems to be more focused around the teeth whitening benefits but the additional benefits shouldn’t be overlooked.

coconut oil

Alleged benefits include:

  • Whiter teeth
  • Cavity prevention
  • Better breath
  • Stronger teeth and gums
  • Reduced jaw pain
  • Improved sleep and sinus issues
  • Headache relief
  • Hangover relief
  • Improved skin issues (acne, psoriasis and eczema)

Coconut oil is said to make a great substitute for mouthwash due to the antioxidant Vitamin E that it contains, and the anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties due to the lauric acid and monolaurin. There is little conclusive evidence to prove beyond doubt that oil-pulling really does have all the proposed benefits, however it absolutely wont do you any harm (unless you have an allergy to it – always test on a small patch of skin first!) so it’s certainly worth a try! Besides, there are many reports of people claiming to see amazing benefits from it.

white teeth

There are clashing views on how this should be done, with some claiming that it should be carried out each day for two weeks, some once a week and some once a fortnight. Some claim a tablespoon, some claim a teaspoon. Some claim you should swish for 10 minutes, some for 20. I currently oil pull less than I should to see the results, but I’m going to make a conscious effort to pull every 2 days or so, or at least each week if that fails. I use a teaspoon at a time; this is because it expands massively in your mouth as it gathers the toxins and saliva. I personally think any more than a teaspoon would just be too much!

I have recently read that you should swish with salt water immediately after, and then continue with brushing and flossing. Again, this differs from other reports that I’ve read which claim that this could damage the enamel on the teeth. I’m going to try it this time and see how I feel with it.

My Technique:

  • Place one teaspoon of coconut oil in my mouth (it begins hard but melts after a few seconds from the heat of your mouth)
  • Set a timer for 20 minutes
  • Swish until the end of the timer
  • Dispel into the bin (it can solidify and block your drains if dispelled down the sink)
  • Swish for 30 seconds with warm, lightly salted water
  • Brush and Floss

coconut

I personally find that my teeth seem more white and shiny immediately after pulling, so I’m quite looking forward to how my teeth will look after I’ve pulled more often. I lead a healthy lifestyle with other detoxifying methods like drinking green tea and lemon water daily so I’m unsure on the positive effects of drawing out toxins and detoxifying but I would love to hear from you if you’ve tried and noticed anything!

Coconut oil is such a wonderful product because it has so many uses! I often cover my hair in it and leave it to soak in for a few hours for a natural hair treatment. I also cook with it and use it as lip balm or on dry skin. If you’ve not jumped on the hype yet, I would seriously recommend it! I personally love the taste of coconut but of course some might not- but honestly you can’t taste it when you cook with it!

vita coco

My suggestion is that you don’t spend your money on these sachets of oil that are currently on the market. The only difference they have is the added flavour (mint, lemon, vanilla etc) but they retail at £19.99 for 14 sachets. I use Vita Coco which costs £5 – £7 and can be found online or in your local Tesco – this would contain months and months of oil pulling at a fraction of the price than the sachets! Let me know in the comments if you have tried it and how you found it – and also if you have any extra tips for me!
