My New Years Resolutions

2016 has absolutely flown by for me. I’ve worked hard, had a beautiful new niece born, had a change in career goals, and generally worked hard on myself as a person. As I welcome the new year in tonight, I have a few thoughts of what I want for the next year ahead of me.

Fitness

I want to continue with my fitness and reach some personal goals. I want to be able to run further, build muscle all over and my main fitness goal is to get that longed for six pack! I’m looking forward to feeling good through food and exercise again after this Christmas’s blowout!

Tidyness

A bit of a funny one really but important all the same! I have always been very messy but after decorating my room the other month and throwing bags and bags full of stuff away, I’m keeping my bedroom perfectly immaculate and I want to continue that! Clear room, clear mind. I genuinely think it’s good for your mental well-being to be in beautiful surroundings and clothes all over the floor does not support this! So this year I’m going to continue to throw away/donate all of the stuff I don’t want or need and keep my possessions tidy and beautiful.

Yoga and flexibility

I suppose this comes under fitness but for me it’s different. Rather than being for aesthetics and health, I love yoga for my mind. That hour and a half every Thursday evening let’s me clear my mind and stretch my body and relax whilst my instructor helps us meditate and uses essential oils to massage the temples. Blisssssss. Also, my body has changed in flexibility so much from yoga – I’ve gone from not being able to touch my toes, to being able to perform some advanced moves. This year I want to make more time to practice yoga more, as I only do it once a week at the moment. I want to progress in strength and flexibility and master more poses in the process.

Work Life

This year I want to focus a lot of energy into my work life. I want to establish my business and not only continue my modelling career, but advance it further. I want to travel internationally at least once this year with modelling and continue to grab every opportunity and work with more amazing people like the ones I have this year.

Happiness

This year, I want to put my happiness first. Simple as that! There’s nothing in life that’s worth making yourself unhappy over and I’d love for every person reading this to take this resolution and make it their own. Don’t sweat the small stuff, if it won’t be on your mind in years to come, don’t let it be on your mind today. Everything works out in the end.

I hope everyone has a magical night tonight, whatever you’re doing. Cheers to the year ahead 2017 ❤ PS my new niece or nephew is expected to make an appearance within the next few days which is already due to be the highlight of my year ❤

Model Update

I’ve been doing some exciting jobs and tests recently, so I thought I’d share a few of my shots from the last year!

I’ve been so lucky as to shoot in Cyprus and Egypt – but mainly good old Manchester! I’ve worked with some really cool photographers as well, I love seeing the different ideas and visions that they create and how I transform from shot to shot.

Photographers include: Tom Parnell, Matthew Comer, Yolanda Kingdon, Stacey Clarke, Charles Wosu, Chloe-Ann Charnock, Owen Jones, Sean Goldthorpe, Hannah Furness.

Clean Eating’s Dirty Secrets.

I stumbled upon a really interesting programme that’s available on BBC iPlayer right now called Clean Eating’s Dirty Secret.

It’s a documentary starring Grace Victory, a Vlogger on beauty, fashion, body image and mental health. Throughout the programme, Grace explores the recent ‘trend’ of ‘Clean Eating’ that’s sweeped social media and become a lifestyle for many.

In short, she compares insta/YouTube famous ‘nutritionists’ opinions with scientific, factual information from a qualified dietician. I’ll begin by clearing up the difference between a nutritionist and a dietician. ANYONE can call them selves a nutritionist. In fact, Grace herself took a 20 hour, £30 nutritionist course online in the programme which enabled her to claim she’s a raw food nutritionist, despite her not even having any real understanding or passion for nutrition. The difference with a dietician is that they must have studied at university to gain their qualification and it’s perhaps more factual and less opinionated.

Through the programme we see some (in my opinion) crazy diets from all potato, to virtually protein free banana based diets and 100% Raw and vegan. At the start, they do mention how clean eating is dairy, meat, egg and gluten free. I have to say I don’t really agree with this (I’ll come onto that in detail) as to me, clean eating is eating natural which includes meat and eggs so I would say that’s only some peoples version of clean eating.

That gets me on to the fact that pretty much EVERY diet/nutrition/fitness person has a way of doing things and pretty much think their way is the only correct way. There’s some magnificent claims made, for example Freelee – The Banana Girl eats around 30 bananas a day and claims that protein is like acid for the body!? And that the human body receives most of its protein through your own flesh!? Of course this was totally rubbished by the ‘real’ dietician. Another claim by Deliciously Ella is that milk damages your body. Again, rubbished by the dietician who stresses the importance of the calcium that milk offers to the body.

The programme showed the physiological dangers also associated with the clean eating hype, that often go alongside the physical. Many more girls/boys are suffering from Orthorexia Nervosa – an obsession with eating foods that are deemed as healthy by the person. I took this little Orthorexia Self Test which showed that I may have a modest case of Othorexis and I must say I may agree. When I see these (mainly) girls on Instagram with crazy clean meals and insane workouts, it almost makes me feel guilty when I go slightly off course. It’s probably phycological but I actually feel healthier and more attractive when I’ve been ‘eating right’ and restricting myself as opposed to eating what I really want. I must add this isn’t a worry for me, as I do regularly make food choices that aren’t ‘clean’ just because I want to.

Another one to add is gluten free. I do try to eat a gluten free diet due to it being a trigger for my IBS (and no one likes looking 8 months pregnant for no reason) but I can’t for the life of me understand why anyone would CHOOSE to be gluten free if they don’t need to?! It’s so restricting. The other day I went for lunch with friends post-training and wanted a Caesar salad which the menu said came as a gluten free option. So of course I presumed the croutons would be gluten free maybe? Nope. The server came out and said that the gluten free option would literally be chicken and lettuce and is this okay? At £10 uhmmmm, nope. Oh and the sweet potato fries? Coated in flour. So if you think gluten free is easy, you couldn’t be more misguided. Not to mention the fact that gluten free options can be 3 times more expensive and can contain all sorts of nasty chemicals and additives!

I think the most important thing I took away from this is that each individual is different. You can’t follow someone else’s lifestyle in its entirety because every persons body is different. You wouldn’t see my trainer giving a 13 stone lady the same workout as me and this applies to the diet even more so! You need to find what works for YOU and remember you can have everything in moderation. It’s useless trying to cut out certain food groups in their entirety because chances are, your body needs them! Just try and cut back on the things your body doesn’t agree with and that you know aren’t good in large quantities.

Oh, and don’t believe everything you read online.

Bargain Buys: Get The Best For Your Money.

Like many girls, there’s an endless list of things I want (need). Literally, it’s never ending because as soon as I get my hands on something, I see the next thing for my wish list. I know most girls are the same so I’ve compiled a few bargains I’ve seen recently so you can reep the benefits too. I’ll continue with these posts if you guys like them so make sure you let me know via the comments/insta/twitter.

Glamour Magazine

You can get some AMAZING free gifts in magazines every so often and I find Glamour does the best! Last month it was a tube of a new St Tropez tan and this month there’s a range of Model Co makeup! They’ve worked with Model Co previously and I remember getting a lip liner I LOVED but then begrudged paying £16 for another when it ran out as I knew how cheap I had it previously. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw it in this months issue for only ONE POUND. Obviously I bought two. Also there’s an eyeliner, mascara and lipgloss available worth a combined £55. I’m now on the hunt to find the gloss! Always check out the magazine freebies when you’re at the supermarket or newsagents. Primark

I’m sure you already know the bargain store that is Primark. But did you know they’ve bought out a small range of Perspex beauty organisers? You know the ones that are everywhereeeee on Instagram and allow you to show off all your designer makeup? I needed a new one for my ever expanding MAC lipstick collection and was so happy to see this bargain one for £2 when id usually expect to pay between £15-£60 (depending on size).

The top left holder is the Primark one, that’s holding the foundations, lip liners and 6 lipsticks.

Also from Primark, these cute little bikinis that cost me something ridiculous like £2 or £3 and were perfect for lazy days on the beach when you don’t need to dress up too much! How can you argue for that price?

Zara Sale

I wasn’t even aware of this until I went into my agency and all of the bookers had huge boxes delivered! Head to the Zara website and there’s TONES of stuff in the sale. Grab yourself a bargain!

Spotify Premium

I’m new to Spotify so recently took advantage of their free week trial of Premium. I was pleasantly surprised by their offer of another 3 months for just 0.99p – how could I refuse that? This offer is on until June 30th so if you’re new to Spotify also, take advantage of this amazing offer! Have you spotted any more bargains, freebies or money saving tips? Share them with me in the comments or via Twitter/Instagram!

March Favourites

I’ve compiled a little list of some of my favourite things at the moment. Just little things that make my days a bit more pleasant! Some I’ve mentioned or reviewed before, some I’ve just discovered.

1. Nutribullet Green Juices

I’ve been feeling a little under the weather so today I’ve bought a ton of cucumber, celery, kiwi, ginger, spinach, pineapple, limes etc to throw into my cup with the hope of feeling tip top again. Day 1 was good so hopefully a week or so will help boost my immune system back up!

 2. Bikini hunting

I’ve two holidays booked already – Marbella in June for my gorgeous friend Courtney’s wedding, and Tenneriffe in August for my boyfriends dads birthday. I’m hoping I can squeeze another bit of sunshine in as well, so I need to stock up on bikinis. I like having ones no one else has so I search for hours online, imagining myself on a hot beach with a mojito in hand.

I miss the ocean so much, I’m dying to dive in and swim freely with the sea life surrounding me. After last years scuba adventures, it’s a must.

 3.  Nudey Chocolate Protein Shake

I’ve just received the new chocolate shake. I knew I’d love it because the coconut one was amazing – it definitely doesn’t disappoint! I’m focused on my bod at the moment with these holidays coming up, I really want to look and feel my best on the beach so these are amazing. Code HELEN for 20% off your order at NudeyTea.

 4. Weight training and outdoor walks

I’ve been a fan of training for ages, but at the moment I’m really getting into weight training. I’m going for it with the booty building but I’m also concentrating more on back and arms with the help of my boyfriend. Something I’ve always avoided! I’m also loving walks outdoors, I’ve been going at least once a week for the last few months and it’s so nice to get some fresh air and gentle exercise.

5. Star Tan

I’ve been sent some amazing new tan and I’m really loving it! I’ll be posting a review this week about it so keep your eyes peeled.

6. Chanel Bronzer

I wrote a post last year about Chanel’s mousse bronzer and I still ADORE it. I’ve recently bought a new pot and it’s still one of my most favourite products ever, absolute beauty must-have.

 7. Chanel Perfume

Another classic Chanel perfume. I’m on my second bottle (which my boyfriend bought me and so cutely engraved) and I know I’ll be keeping this scent foreverrrrrr.

 8. Pinterest

My Pinterest addiction has got even more intense recently. I loveeee it for inspo of every kind. I just type in anything like fashion, food etc and millions of pics are there to inspire me. If you don’t have the app, get it NOW.

9. Windy App

Another app for you – it’s called Windy. I got it when iTunes was giving free apps for the leap year which is a bit random. It’s simply just white noise, like nature sounds and you can adjust it to your preferences. It’s nice and relaxing and good for yoga stretches or even if you’re studying or doing work. I’m not sure if it costs but I’d say it’s worth it if you need some background noise.

10. Comfy clothes. All the time.

I’m a huge fan of lounge wear and sports clothes at the moment. When I’m not on a job or at a casting, it’s a guarantee I’ll be wearing a cute little lounging set or my gym clothes. Calvin Klein sports wear or Lounge Underwear just finish it off for me! Comfort is key…

What are your favourite things at the moment? Let me know in the comments!

Brown Paper Packages Tied Up With String: Christmas gift wrapping.

I love this time of year, and I get such great pleasure from purchasing and wrapping up my Christmas gifts for loved ones. I’m always ordering extra little bits just to make the gifts that tiny bit more special. This year, I browsed Pinterest for ideas and blended a few together to create the perfect gift wrap for my presents.

My 2015 gift wrap is brown paper with white ribbon and tied up with string. I’ve purchased little white and red tags that will have personalised gold stickers on! In addition, I’m tying little candy canes into the bows and finishing the gifts off with gold icicle sticks scattered around the paper. It might sound extravagant but it can be done so cheap when you hunt around.

In my small town, there’s a shop which is full of cute little trinkets, shabby chic ornaments and furniture, and at this time of year – the sweetest Christmas items. I took my 6yr old niece after school yesterday and she said ‘this is the most beautiful shop I’ve ever seen!’. Here, I purchased the brown paper and string and the cute card tags. You’ll be able to find these basic items in tones of shops or online!

Here’s a few pictures I’ve found of beautiful gift wrap that you could copy or take inspiration from! Most are simple and DIY and they’re all very festive and pretty!

I’ve found the best place to get bits and bobs from is eBay! Many can be personalised and cost just a pound or two! Just be sure to order from your home country so they come in time! If you’re a bit stuck on how to get a neat wrap, head to YouTube for tutorials!

When all of my things arrive and my gifts are wrapped, I’ll post pictures. Tag me in your Christmas wrapping pics on Instagram and Twitter @heliemac1 and help get me feeling really festive!

2015 Victoria’s Secret Show

Oh. My. Gosh. It’s feirce, it’s feminine, it’s glamorous and it’s the most anticipated show of the year. Last night, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2015 commended, with some jaw-dropping outfits and the worlds finest supermodels strutting their stuff down the runway.

Last year my boyfriend managed to pick me up a 2014 show makeup bag (that’s all that was left of the show gear!) and I loveeeee it. This year I will definitely be heading down to the store to pick up some show goodies!

VS is one of my favourite things in the world. I don’t think any other brand can ever quite compare. Here’s some of my FAVOURITE pics from the night.

November moodboard.

I’m finally starting to get into the Autumn/winter time of year, even though I’m a complete summer girl.

Here’s a few of my top picks for the month.

Mullberry and chunky knits, a match made in heaven.
It’s time to get the blankets out! I’m in love with chunky knitted blankets and throws.
‘Basically nude’ bras to keep secretly feminine under all of the baggy clothes and coats.   Cute silky PJs, all year round.
Particularly Victoria’s Secret ones.   Major hair envy.
Barely-there makeup with a dewy glow and a dab of glowy highlighter.

Illamasqua cream pigment for contouring.
Time to top up my MAC lipstick collection with a few warm autumn tones. The reds and purples are unreal.

Guilt free winter warmer – Matcha Green Tea Lattes.

Mocha thigh high boots are everywhere at the moment.

The 2015 Victoria’s Secret show IS TONIGHT. I’ve decided I’m prepping my body for the 2016 selections. A girl can dream….? Every female models ultimate goal.

What are you loving this season?

New obsession: Chai Latte.

I was just browsing in Tesco when I stumbled upon this little pink tub that caught my eye. At just £2 I thought I’d give it a shot and I’m now obsessed!

If you’ve never tried a Chai Latte, it’s ‘a sweetened blend of tea, skimmed milk and spices’ and is a sort of light brown coloured powder. All you have to do is mix in hot water/milk to whip up a winter warming drink. Another option is blending in cold milk and ice for an iced version.

Only 90 calories per cup, 99% caffeine free and a nice change from hot chocolate. Pick up some DrinkMe Chai Latte Spiced today and you can enjoy a chilled Sunday with a hot mug in hand!

Have a great weekend,
